Abstract:V diplomski nalogi smo predstaviti kulturo športa mešanih borilnih veščin. Drug drugega spoštujejo in njihova želja ni trajno poškodovati nasprotnika, ampak publiki ponuditi atraktiven dvoboj in zmagati.

Title:Kultura mešanih borilnih veščin
Abstract:In this diploma thesis, we are presenting the culture of sport Mixed Martial Arts. We researched the violence and ethics of this sport. In theoretical part we described the development of martial arts, especially MMA, where such forms of fighting appeared in ancient Greece as pankration. It reappeared and transformed in the second half of the 20th century. MMA is one of the newest combat sport with the fastest growth of popularity. As it is not equally developed everywhere but is still in process of development, the supervision is not everywhere as it should be and the circumstances vary. A lot of people think that MMA is too violent and unethical. We have tried to research this reproach in empirical part of the diploma through discussion of 98 male and female fighters from 16 countries all over the world, who compete or did compete on different levels – amateur, professional and 12 of them on the highest level in UFC. We have tried to discover in what circumstances the fighters grew up, what is their motivation and how they consider the reproach of violence connected with this sport. We got to know that most of fighters were brought up in rather violent circumstances and created certain passion towards fighting. This sport influenced the fighters to become calmer and more disciplined. Thus they are aware that violence belongs only to organized and supervised fights. They find the sport ethical and they consider there is no debate about it as the athletes fight voluntary with similar skills and have to keep to the same rules. They respect each other and they do not want to cause permanent injuries, but they want to offer a great fight for the fans and achieve victory. For most fighters the fight is not violence but a tactical game. They think that unethical part is only the business connected with this sport, the way of promoting the sport, the use of doping etc. According to the opinion of interviewed fighters and the author of this diploma, the sport itself is violent only to the limits determinate by rules, as well as in other sports.
