Title:Uporaba zeolitov in razvoj analiznih metod za spremljanje učinkovitosti čiščenja komunalnih odpadnih vod

Abstract:V sklopu magistrskega dela smo spremljali učinkovitost čiščenja komunalnih odpadnih vod z adsorpcijo na zeolite. Uporabili smo tri različne zeolite, dva naravna in enega sintetičnega, približno enakih granulacij in lastnosti. Kot tarčna onesnaževala smo obravnavali težke kovine treh različnih koncentracij. Adsorpcija je večinoma potekala na statičen način. Naredili smo tudi različne verzije adsorpcije z mešanimi kovinami in adsorpcijo z manjšimi frekvencami jemanja vzorcev. Prav tako smo izvedli desorpcijo z 0,1 M HCl. Za vpogled kinetike adsorpcije smo preizkusili tudi pretočni način adsorpcije. Koncentracijo kovin smo izmerili z atomsko absorpcijsko spektroskopijo, vzorce zeolita pa karakterizirali z rentgenskim praškovnim difraktometrom. Uporabljeno metodo smo tudi delno validirali. Določili smo linearnost, natančnost, mejo določljivosti in mejo zaznavnosti. Po rezultatih sodeč je naša metoda ustrezna, saj daje natančne in ponovljive rezultate v izbranem delovnem območju. Pri vseh eksperimentih je viden trend nižanja koncentracije vseh onesnaževal. Največji padec se je povsod zgodil v prvi uri adsorpcije, vsi trije materiali pa so dosegli v povprečju od 70% do 90% retencijo. Prav tako so v povprečju retencije pri nižji koncentraciji boljše kot pri višji koncentraciji. Najboljše rezultate smo pri vseh koncentracijah dosegli pri Pb2+, sledita Zn2+ in Ni2+. Ugotovili smo, da Langmuirjeva izoterma bolje opiše eksperimentalne podatke kot Freundlichova.

Title:Application of zeolites and the development of analytical methods for monitoring the effectiveness of municipal wastewater treatment
Abstract:As part of the Master's thesis, we monitored the efficiency of wastewater purification with adsorption by zeolites. Three different zeolites were used, two natural and a synthetic of approximate granulation and properties. Three various heavy metals in different concentration were treated as the target pollutants. The batch method was mostly employed; also different versions of adsorption with mixed metals were performed, plus an adsorption with a lower frequency of sample collection. Moreover, desorption with 0’1 M HCl was investigated. To gain insight into the kinetics of adsorption, we performed a dynamic experiment. The concentration of metal was measured by performing an atomic absorption spectroscopy, while the zeolite samples were characterized by using an x-ray powder diffractometer. The method used was partially validated. The linearity, precision, limit of detection and limit of quantification were determined and judging by the results, our method is valid and it provides reproducible results. A trend of decreasing concentration of the pollutants is visible in all the experiments. The largest drop in concentration occurred in the first hour of adsorption, and all three materials achieved from 70% to 90% retention in average. Similarly, the percentage of retention is higher when using lower concentration. The best results were achieved by using Pb2+, followed by Zn2+ and Ni2+. We have concluded that the Langmuir isotherm describes the experimental data better than the Freundlich isotherm.
