Title:THE ROLE AND IMPORTANCE OF A DRAWING IN ARCHITECTURE
Abstract:The main theme of the diploma thesis is the drawing as a fundamental medium of fine art expression. Through the thesis the reasons of its appearance and its general technical and expressive features are discussed and the drawing is also classified. Furthermore, its main functions are defined and its double nature that ranges from autonomous to auxiliary work is chronologically determined. From the point of view of the latter it has been treated through the perspective of architectural designing where its function within specific requirements and needs of the experts has been highlighted. It has been determined that the drawing in the field of architecture (architectural drawing) can appear as a productive designing tool (sketch), as an instrument of presentation (presentational drawing), and as an information media for the execution of projects (technical drawing), where its presence is strongly submitted to digital tools and related means of presentation. Significant differences in the use of drawing in the past and present architectural practice have been perceived. More and more challenging approaches of construction definitely demand modern approaches in presentations, yet the neglecting of hand-drawn drawing leads to the loss of basic quality of creating, the authors expression, therefore, the parallel use of digital and analogical techniques is crucial for a complete approach to architectural problems. Through the exposed examples of architectural sketches the research has been expanded to personal expression in a wide range of purposes, where the sketch has proved to be an excellent mediator between the mind and the hand serving as means to depict both material and immaterial world including the one in between.
