Abstract:Pod pojmom zgodovina običajno razumemo tiste vidike preteklosti, ki raziskujejo človeško vedenje skozi čas. Zgodovinski spomini in njihova razlaga nam omogočajo spoznati preteklost in hkrati razumeti sedanjost. V ta namen jih mora zgodovinar preučiti in jih kritično presoditi.

Title:THE HUNGARIAN REVOLUTION AND WAR OF LIBERATION OF 1956, IN LIGHTS OF NEWSPAPERS
Abstract:Under the concept of history, we usually understand those aspects of the past that explore human behaviour through time. Historical memories and their interpretation allow us to get to know the past and at the same time to understand the present. We also want to learn from history as well as to “see” the future. Various historical sources testify about trails of human life and activities in the past. Some of these sources are written, but not necessarily all genuine. The purpose of a historian is to study and critically assess them. As the historian has no direct contact with the events, various sources, which interpret the same event, should be compared. The chosen research question in my thesis is the October revolution and war of liberation of 1956 in Hungary. Public discussion about this revolution was suppressed in Hungary for more than thirty years. It became the subject of intensive study and discussion only after a political warming in the 80ʼs of the twentieth century. In my thesis I will focus on written sources in newspapers in Hungary, but due to lack of objectivity I resorted to the professional literature. The aim of this thesis is to introduce a theoretical and analytical overview of events in the light of the newspapers. At that time about 200 000 Hungarians left the country. Some of them fled to Prekmurje. Therefore, I will I will summarize the conclusion of these events.
