Globalno okolje, v katerem delujejo start-up podjetja, je izjemno negotovo in dinamično, stopnja preživetja start-up podjetij pa nizka.

Naslov:Analysis of the presence of pillars and elements of Slovene start-up ecosystem and reasons why Slovene start-up entrepreneurs leave to join foreign accelerators
Opis:The twenty-first century is characterised by a knowledge society, with knowledge as the main source of new ideas, products, services and processes which all have high added value and global competitive edge. People who play an important role within the knowledge society are highly educated and creative individuals who possess unique know-how, competences, experience and connections, and are ambitious and enterprising enough to turn their ideas into innovations and new ventures with a global market potential. The literature provides several terms for the respective phenomenon, such as new international venture, born-global companies, high-tech start-up companies, global start-ups etc. In this Master's Thesis we have decided to use the term start-up company. Our definition of a start-up company is a newly established company, normally younger than three years, that has been using knowledge to develop new and innovative products or services under extremely uncertain conditions, and has been globally-oriented from the very beginning. The global environment in which start-ups operate is extremely uncertain and dynamic, with a relatively low start-up survival rate. In general, nine out of ten start-up companies are likely to fail within the first couple of years of their establishment. Since it is generally expected that start-ups will grow faster than other newly-established companies and create disproportionally higher number of new jobs compared to the existing companies, they play a crucial role with regards to economic growth. Due to their significance, a number of different systems have emerged worldwide to help start-up launch and growth, one of them being the so-called start-up ecosystems. Slovenia has laid the foundations for a start-up ecosystem on a national scale, which has in fact been developing rapidly and dynamically over the past couple of years. According to statistics, the number of start-ups in Slovenia has been escalating along with the value of capital injections into start-ups. There is also a variety of internationally-comparable programmes that help boost the innovation and support environment, with technology parks, university-based incubators and business accelerators playing the leading part in the process, offering programmes that bring together private and public sources of funding, mentors, professional assistance, companies and research organisations in addition to providing flexible office-space arrangements and infrastructure. Nevertheless, we have noticed that Slovenian start-up entrepreneurs tend to move their business to start-up ecosystems abroad. For this reason, we have decided to analyse the Slovenian start-up system in terms of its integrativeness and ability to provide all the requirements necessary for a proper support of start-up businesses.
