Abstract:

Title:
Measuring and Managing The Complexity of Business Process Diagrams
Abstract:
The purpose of our work was to provide an overview of measuring and managing of complexity in business process diagrams. Utilizing the systematic literature review we identified 43 relevant articles from which we collected 65 complexity metrics and numerous recommendations for reducing diagram complexity. Diagram modelers can use this collection of metrics and good practices to establish and ensure good quality of diagrams in general, but also to measure and improve specific aspects of diagram complexity. The reasonable next step in further research would be to provide more accurate data on the validity and practical usability of each metric with a systematic review for each of them.
