Title:Possibilities to use sewage sludge on agricultural land in the municipality of Slovenj Gradec
Abstract:Treatment plants are the main devices for treating effluent water, which is then returned into the environment. Advanced technologies now enable the reuse of effluent water. However, sewage sludge treatment in municipal treatment plants around Slovenia differs from one another and is often unsuitable. The thesis focuses on the possibilities to use sewage sludge from municipal treatment plants on agricultural land in the municipality of Slovenj Gradec. It is a known fact that sewage sludge from municipal treatment plants can be used in agriculture because it contains important nutrients, especially nitrogen and phosphorus. To this end, the following potentially appropriate areas for sewage sludge application were determined: cereal fields, fodder fields, pastures, meadows, and the minimum size of land for sewage sludge application. Based on the acquired analyses, the sewage sludge from the Slovenj Gradec treatment plant is classified as non-hazardous waste. The size of potential land for sewage sludge application is 5047.19 hectares, of which 68.19 could have sewage sludge applied throughout the year, i.e. during fertilisation periods. As for the remaining 4979 hectares of the land, the application of sewage sludge is permitted only after the last mowing or grazing of the year, which is in autumn.
