Abstract:Predmetno diplomsko delo proučuje vlogo in položaj žensk znotraj Smučarske zveze Slovenije (SZS).

Title:THE ROLE OF WOMEN WITHIN SKI ASSOCIATION OF SLOVENIA
Abstract:This thesis examines the role and status of women within the Slovenian Ski Association (SZS). In the thesis are presented the data on the number of female competitors in the SZS ski competitions at the highest level (Olympic Games and World Championships) since 1991 and the data on the number of females who in the same period occupied positions in office or professional positions at the Ski Association of Slovenia. The aim of the research is to provide answers to questions relating to equal opportunities for sportsmen and sportswomen to occupy the key position in the SZS regardless of gender. One of the objectives of the research is to formulate proposals to improve the existing situation. Presented are the detailed numbers of female competitors at the Winter Olympics between 1992 and 2014 and at the world championships in the 1993-2013 period compared with the number of women involved in professional and managerial work within the Ski Association of Slovenia in the same period. The first, theoretical part of the thesis is based on the descriptive survey method. Based on the study of the scientific literature, a general insight into the role of women in various positions in the modern world is presented. The second part is based on data collected from the archive material of Slovenian Ski Association, International Ski Federation, and The International Biathlon organization. The figures are collected with the aim to present the percentage of women in the total population in the area of sport and to provide answers to questions asked in the survey. The data obtained are analyzed numerically and graphically displayed. The result of the research is the finding that female population within the SZS is poorly represented. There are about half as many female competitors in comparison with male competitors. Even worse are women represented in a non-competitive section and such unequal ratio is constant over the observation period. Slovenia did not have women in positions of team leaders and not in positions of sports coaches since its independence. In 2014, for the first time in the history of alpine skiing industry a female coach was appointed in charge of a physical preparation for men in men's national team and for the first time in the history of SZS a vice-chair woman was elected. The proposal to improve the current situation is the introduction of women-friendly policies in the SZS that would allow coordination of obligations with the requirements of family life. It is necessary to provide a greater number of female coaches in SZS industries, selected from former qualified contestants. In the beginning they will be appointed assistants to the racing teams, which would consequently provide equivalent starting point for coaching position. The next proposal is the establishment of a special women's committee within the SZS responsible for the psychological and physical health and needs of the female contestants with the aim to take care of the communication with the contestants, to solve potential problems and disagreements in the individual teams, to take care of education, etc.
