Abstract:Magistrsko delo poskuša s svojo vsebino prispevati k povečanju informacij na področju preučevanja pojava množičnega samomora.

Abstract:The aim of this Master's Degree thesis was to expand knowledge in the field of mass suicide occurrence. There is a lot written about the suicide of an individual, about the background that leads to it, but there is considerably less information available if we want to figure out what makes a group of people take their lives simultaneously. Attention was mostly directed at the condition of the entire group of people with the same awareness, thoughts, feelings, etc. But first it is necessary to understand this group, its characteristics and psychology in order to understand where it gets the power to so strongly unite seemingly completely different people and lead them to commit such a horrible act. Central part of the thesis presents concrete cases which happened in different cultures, countries, time periods and are based on different motives. According to the data collected, I tried to find a common denominator, but it later turned out it was basically impossible. Master's Degree thesis as a meaningful whole with personal findings and belief was built also with the help of a sociological approach to motives and factors for mass suicide. When quoting definitions from different authors, personal definitions arose from those already present.
