Title:THE EVALUATION OF A FIFTH GRADE E-TEXTBOOK - CONTENT: DATA PROCESSING
Abstract:This diploma paper entitled “The evaluation of a fifth grade e-textbook – content: Data processing” focuses on modern technology – information and communications technology that has becoming more and more important in education. We defined the term “e-learning materials” from various angles and presented the Data processing content. We showed how it is included in the curriculum and presented the graphical representations about which pupils learn in the first five grades of elementary school. The empirical part includes a research in the form of a pedagogical experiment. In this research we evaluated a part of the e-textbook that was made during a Slovene project E-textbooks emphasizing natural sciences in elementary school. We used the e-learning units from the Data processing content. The pedagogical experiment lasted for two weeks, of which one class used an I-textbook and the other one a printed textbook. We assessed the knowledge of pupils in both classes after the conducted experiment and compared it to their prior knowledge. The results showed that, after the performed experiment, the knowledge of the pupils in the experimental group was slightly better than that of the pupils in the control group; however, the difference was not statistically relevant. Nevertheless, the pupils from the experimental group thought that teaching by using an I-textbook was interesting, mostly because of working with computers.
