Title:Possibilities of using natural energy resources in Pomurje with emphasis on the economic justification for solar energy use
Abstract:The aim of the Master’s thesis is the introduction of renewable energy sources and the presentation of the options of their use in the Pomurje Region giving a special emphasis on the solar energy. The main aim is the financial analysis of the investment in constructing the solar plant and solar panels. The research has shown that renewable that is the natural energy sources are becoming increasingly important in the Pomurje Region. Mostly used are thus the solar energy, biomass and geothermal energy, whereas the wind power due to its weakness (for the wind power plant to start operating the average wind speed has to be 5m/s, in the Pomurje Region the wind speed is around 2 m/s) and the water power, because it is protected (environmentalists are against the construction of hydroelectric power plant on the Mura River due to the influence it may have on the alteration of the current and flow of the river and on the alterations of the habitats of different plant and animal species) are not used in this region. The main method to calculate eligibility of the investment is the »Cost Benefit Analysis« (CBA Analysis). The results show that the investment for the solar plant at the 8 % interest rate will be repaid in the 10th year since at that time the net present value becomes positive for the first time (NPV = 325,21 EUR). The repayment of the investment in the installation of the solar panels has been calculated due to the nature of the data with the help of the comparison of the prices for the fuel oil. The results have shown that the investment is repaid by the end of eight year period. Due to the current fuel oil prices with the use of solar panels to heat the domestic water we can save up to 7.089,64 EUR in seventeen year period.
