Abstract:Nowadays aerobic capacity, i.e. a healthy and lithe body is more and more important in private as well as in professional life. In history this was a way of measuring power, an opportunity to obtain a higher status in society. Later, with the development humans discovered that we can use machines to work for us, so we began to live from the armchair. The technology has developed so much and become perfected to such an extent that nearly all the chores can be done by machines. If people are not active they do not consume the energy they get with food. Subcutaneous fat accumulates due to physical inactivity, which is later reflected in the risk factors. Also, today's world is becoming more and more competitive, quick, uncompassionate, which can lead to stress if people are overwhelmed. Stress worsens at the time we spend at work, and does not find a way out itself without any help from us. In the evening we sit in front of the TV watching the news which are usually bad. Lack of conversation makes us further away from our loved ones and ourselves and leaves us less satisfied with our bodies. Due to such way of life, ignoring the needs of the body, over the time the body can no longer fight by itself and that results in diseases associated with obesity and stress, the cardiovascular system is not in proper condition anymore and all that has a negative impact on the whole organism. Problems in professional life follow easily. Dissatisfied people with health problems can hardly do anything quite positive and have to put much more effort into achieving goals than they would if they were healthy and happy. In Slovenia and in some other developed countries obesity is a growing problem. So far it has started to hurt children, too. Unhealthy food is cheaper, regular exercise requires effort in adults and in youngsters. In order to cope with the effort we need discipline, will power and perseverance. By informing and motivating children and young people about healthy lifestyle the global problem could become less severe. There would be more happy and productive people, there would be less diseases which require costly treatment for individuals and the community.
