Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Epilepsija spada med najstarejša človeku poznana obolenja in je najpogostejša nevrološka bolezen.

Title:The influence of epilepsy on the quality of the patients life
Abstract:Theoretical basis: Epilepsy is one of the oldest diseases known to men and is the most common neurological disease. It occures in 1% of the population. Epilepsy has strong effect on all areas of patients functioning, including the lives of family members. This study was to determine whether, after an epilptic attack and diagnois changed their quality of life. Research metodolgy: In this thesis we used the descriptive method. With the help of survey we gained informations, but the research itself we performed among members of the League against epilepsy association of Slovenia. In the research participated 30 patients, in which there were 18 women and 12 men. Results: The majority of respondents believes, that quality of life after the diagnosis has changed. The greatest obstacle represents stigmatization, beacuse they feel they stigmatized by the surroundings, which in their view is not educaited enough about this disease. Patients fear of another seizure and that represents an obstacle, most are afraid of injuries during the epileptic attack. Conclusion: Epilepsy doesn't represent just health problem, but is often connected with psychological and social consequences, which are a great burden for patients and their family members. To ensure the proper quality of life for patient with epilepsy, we need to participate medical, social and educational facilities.
