Title:The decision to treat alcoholism
Abstract:The problem of alcohol abuse and alcoholism is multifaceted and it includes medical problems, problems in family, working, transport, public health care, law, etc. It takes a long time before an addict realizes its problem and starts thinking about the addiction and the treatment. This thesis consists of theoretical and empirical part. In the theoretical part we have introduced the syndrome of alcoholism, ways of recovering from this addiction, factors that affect the treatment and also how the family, nurse and the working environment influence the treatment of addicts. In the empirical part we have presented results of the research that had been carried out in the health center of dr. Adolf Drolc in Januar, 2012. As an instrument of the research we have used anonymous questionnaire which consisted of sixteen open-ended and close-ended questions. The participants were 21 treated alcoholics. Our main aim had been to find out the most common factors that have affected the decision for the treatment, whether their family was their biggest motivation for the treatment and who was their biggest support during the treatment. The results of the research have indicated that the most common factors that affect the decision for treatment were problems in the family. The biggest motivation for the treatment was a family and their partners.
