Title:Urban freight transport and possible ecological solutions
Abstract:Nowadays, the issue of environmental protection is becoming increasingly important, so it is imperative we realize that it is us, humans, who are the main cause of environmental pollution. One of the major polluters of the environment is the transport sector which continues to grow steadily. Of particular concern is the continued growth of road passenger and freight transport in urban areas. This thesis is divided into three parts, which are, in turn, interlinked and complementary. In the introduction we define the problem for which we seek solutions throughout the rest of the thesis. These solutions must be relevant to the issue, that is, they must be sufficiently comprehensive. Following are the theoretical starting points in the first chapter, where we introduce the European Union's transport policy, then move on to the transport policy of the Republic of Slovenia, and finally present the transport policy of the Municipality of Ljubljana. In the second part of the thesis we present the current situation in the Municipality of Ljubljana and examples of good practice abroad, which we then go on to compare with the state of affairs in the Municipality of Ljubljana. In the last part we propose a set of solutions to improve freight traffic in the City of Ljubljana, based upon the analysis of deficiencies that were detected in the previous section of the thesis.
Keywords:freight transport in urban areas, transport policy of the European Union, transport policy of the Republic of Slovenia, transport policy of the Municipality of Ljubljana, emissions, delivery, shipping.
