Title:MANUFACTURING OF REDUCER HOUSING PROTOTYPE BY INVESTMENT CASTING TECHNOLOGY
Abstract:In the manufacture of aluminium prototypes in this dissertations, an investment casting technology has been used. By this process a 3D printed prototype is firstly made. Then this prototype is used for making a silicone rubber mould that will be further used for casting wax patterns. Wax patterns are later welded to form a so called wax tree. The wax tree has been put into a frame, flooded with plaster and let to set in the room temperature. The set mould is then exposed to the elevated temperature of 680 degres by which the wax gets melted or burned out this forming the mould for casting aluminium alloy, which takes place in a special inductivelly heated crucible. This way several aluminum evaporator housing prototypes have been casted as the result of the research. During this process some manufacturing inaccuracies can occur as a result of materials shrinking. Shrinkage has been observed and measured using the Three-Dimensional Scanner ATOS II. For functional testing of the evaporator its prototype has to be made within the required tolerances that allow for installation on the existing housing and proper operation of the evaporator assembly in automotive gas systems. The research has given some indicators for future use of investment casting system, and predict the maximum potential of additive technology and investment casting technology in the manufacture of finished products for biomedical, aviation, automotive and other applications.
