Nastanek in razvoj obeh jezikov sta bila skozi vso zgodovino določena z dvema dejstvoma: relativno majhnostjo števila nosilcev teh jezikov in določeno stopnjo nedržavnosti vse do osamosvojitve obeh držav leta 1991.

Abstract:The aim of this article is to describe the development of the Slovene and Macedonian literary languages and the historical circumstances in which their formation took place. The emergence of the said languages and their development have throughout the history been marked by two characteristics: a small number of speakers and a certain lack of functionality all up to 1991 when the two countries gained their independence. Due to the geographical distance and given the different levels of influence by neighbouring languages and multi-language structures, in which during different periods of history lived the Macedonians and the Slovenes, it has to be expected there would be many a difference between the two development processes, nevertheless, one of the main objectives of the present article was to find parallels between them.
