Title:HOW ARE KINDERGARTENS EQUIPPED FOR PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
Abstract:How are kindergartens in Slovenia equipped for physical activities is the title of my dissertation which is composed of two sections, a theoretical and an empirical one. In the first section the following has been presented: child development –in terms of body movement and physical development, places for performing physical activities, sports equipment, improvised equipment and didactic material, playground structures, examples of physical activities for preschool children with the corresponding objectives and sports accessories. The results are presented in the empirical section. They were acquired through our anonymous survey. Each of the 231 educators was given a questionnaire. 131 of them are from the country, the remaining 100 educators come from cities. They work in 22 different kindergartens. We have found that these kindergartens have the following at their disposal, namely all of them have gyms as well as playgrounds with natural shade. Yet the sports playgrounds and the central areas do not meet the Rules on Norms and Minimal Technical Conditions for Place and Equipment in Kindergartens. We have also found the following: most kindergartens do not have at their disposal a place for their daily participation in physical activities. Furthermore, the most common sports accessories in kindergartens are: balls, hoops, exercise mats, skipping ropes, slides, cones, scooters, benches, snow shovels, tricycles, balance bikes, stilts, ladders and mini baskets. Less common ones are: balance beams, chests, roller skates or roller blades, carts for sports accessories, mini goals, trampolines, climbing ropes, bars and nets. The following sports accessories are rarely found in kindergartens: skates, swimming pools, tables for table-tennis and the equipment for alpine and cross-country skiing.
