Title:VPLIV KULTURNEGA KAPITALA STARŠEV NA KULTURNI KAPITAL IN ŠOLSKO USPEŠNOST DIJAKOV

Abstract:Naloga obravnava pojem kulturnega kapitala in njegov vpliv na šolsko uspešnost. V prvem delu naloge so predstavljeni različni avtorji in njihovo razumevanje kulturnega kapitala. Prav tako so predstavljeni nekateri vidiki vplivanja kulturnega kapitala na družbeno (ne)enakost in družbeno gibljivost ter v povezavi s tem tudi pojem socialnega kapitala. Opisani so tudi različni vplivi staršev, učiteljev in inteligence pri določanju šolske uspešnosti. V drugem delu naloge so predstavljeni empirični podatki naše raziskave, ki je bila opravljena med 504 dijaki različnih srednjih šol na območju Maribora. Zanimala nas je predvsem količina kulturnega kapitala staršev, kako le-ta vpliva na količino kulturnega kapitala dijakov in posledično na njihov šolski uspeh. Do dobljenih rezultatov smo prišli s pomočjo anketnega vprašalnika za dijake. V njem smo spraševali, kako pogosto se dijaki vključujejo v določene kulturne aktivnosti glede na kulturni kapital staršev, učni uspeh, tip srednje šole, socialni položaj družine ter odnos z učitelji. Ugotovitve so prikazane v sklepnem delu.

Title:THE IMPACT OF PARENTS` CULTURAL CAPITAL ON STUDENTS` CULTURAL CAPITAL AND THEIR SCHOOL SUCCES
Abstract:The paper deals with the concept of cultural capital and its impact on academic achievement. In the first part of the paper we present different authors and their understanding of cultural capital. Also, different points of view of how cultural capital affects social (in)equality and social mobility are presented. In connection, the concept of social capital is described. We also describe the influence of parents, teachers and intelligence on academic achievement. In the second part of the paper we analyse empirical data. The research was carried out among 504 students at different types of secondary schools in Maribor. We were primarily interested in how parents' cultural capital affects students' cultural capital and consequently their academic achievement. We got the results with the help of a questionnaire for students. We asked them how often they visit certain cultural activities with regard to their parents' cultural capital, their academic achievement, the type of secondary school that they attend, the social standing of the family and their relationship with teachers. The findings of the empirical part are presented in the conclusion.
