Abstract:Med letoma 1714 in 1716 se v mariborski župniji sv.

Title:THE CONSEQUENCES OF INFECTIOUS EPIDEMICS AND FIRE IN THE PARISH OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST IN MARIBOR BETWEEN 1712 AND 1725
Abstract:The plague epidemic broke out one last time in the St. John Baptist parish in Maribor between the years 1714 and 1716. The research covers the years between 1712 and 1725. This paper is based on the research of the registers of the Jarenina parish, the St. Peter parish near Maribor (Malečnik), and on the already released sources about the Maribor parish. The most important parts of the analysis were the noted baptisms, the share of baptized people according to sex, the share of baptized illegitimate children, the number of noted marriages, the number of noted burials, the share of noted burials according to sex, and the share of undefined burials. The gathered data undoubtedly gives evidence of plague epidemic being present in the mentioned regions. This data may not be entirely accurate though, as the entries in the registers were not made accurately and scrupulous, which can also be seen from the research work. Also featured in the paper is the city of Maribor in the time of the plague from 1680/1682 to the middle of 18th century. The Maribor parish also suffered other natural disasters including devastating fires. The research includes the fire of 1720, which has not been properly investigated at the time.
