Abstract:Pri potresno odporni gradnji objektov moramo izpolniti vse zahteve varnosti, ki jih podajajo predpisi, zato moramo določiti maksimalne obremenitve objekta.

Title:THE SELECTION OF FIRST PERIOD CALCULATION METHOD, ITS INFLUENCE ON THE MAGNITUDE OF THE EARTHQUAKE EFFECT AND ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES
Abstract:The earthquake-resistant construction of buildings requires that all safety requirements defined by the regulations must be fulfilled. The peak-design load of the structure needs to be determined in order to meet these conditions. This diploma thesis concernes a steel-structure with six floors. The main objective of the thesis was to investigate how various selected period-calculation methods affect the magnitude of an earthquake’s effect. In this way it was exclusively possible to evaluate the influence of the analyse methods’ selection with the magnitude of the earthquake’s effect and, consequently, to the erection costs. Structural mass and stiffness are those structural design parameters that have the greatest impact on the first period governsing the design magnitude of the earthquake’s effect. Therefore, the core of this diploma thesis is oriented towards selecting the structure’s modelling, and its effect on the magnitude and distribution of the seismic impact. The results obtained clearly that significant differences occur regarding the sizing of the structure’s columns’ profiles originating from the method implemented for evaluation of the first period, as well as the seismic forces’ distributions. From an economical point of view, this means that the selecting of columns’ cross-sections dimensions for the whole steel structure clearly varies with the choice of period-evaluation method. Consequently, this further suggests that an analyse for different types of cross-section profiles, for example HEM and HEA profiles, should be carried out.
