|Opis:|| In all modern organizations business processes are dependent on the information system. It is therefore important to ensure that the information system is in optimal condition, since it’s the only way to provide smooth and successful implementation of business processes. One of the key areas in management of information system is management of user environment.
Best technology for managing the user environment in Windows domain based network, is Group Policy, which is the main topic of this diploma thesis.
The first part of this diploma thesis explores the technology of group policies, analyzes the preconditions for its operation and investigates the main mechanisms through which we enforce settings for the users and computers. Also presented are the principal categories of settings and their components, including all innovations introduced in the field of group policy management by the operating system Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2.
The second part is devoted to the actual management of group policy objects using the tools that are available from Microsoft. We describe in detail two main tools: Group Policy Management Console and Advanced Group Policy Management tool. Also presented are other management tools such as scripts, Windows Power Shell, gpupdate, gpresult and ADMX Migrator tool.
In the last section, we are first dealing with the structure of Active Directory, which is a basis for any successful management of user environment. We present our own proposal for the organizational unit structure of Active Directory, which we believe is suitable for most organizations. Than we deal with settings that are configured for the computer and user parts of the group policy objects. Configured are many settings, ranging from complex security settings, user folder redirection settings, system settings of operating systems, power management, through to printer settings, network drives settings and shortcuts for user's desktop. Finally, we present the application management with group policies for applications included in Microsoft Office 2010 suite and web browser Google Chrome.
All configured settings in group policy objects and executed operations have been tested in virtual test environment based on Windows 2008 R2 domain. In the process of working with group policies, we have come to conclusion that the use of group policies is a must for all organizations with Windows domain based network, because of its simplicity, ease of use and effectiveness. |
