Abstract:The thesis »The importance of e-commerce in the customs administration of the Republic of Slovenia« is made to analyze the results of the research, which considered the development of e-commerce of Slovenian companies with the Customs Administration of the Republic of Slovenia in terms of competitive advantages that this brings. The initial hypothesis, which states that it is justifiable to consider business of Slovenian companies with the Slovenian customs as one of the companies sub system of the logistic process, also in terms of reducing all cost components and time of the availability of Slovenian products in the EU, is confirmed. The restructuring of both private and public sector is due to a development, which is most intense in the field of information science, focused on information technology and is a strategic weapon to achieve competitive advantage in the marketplace. A special emphasis is given to the electronic commerce in terms of the advantages that it brings. Both the introduction of customs simplifications and the potential of electronic commerce for all customs procedures represent an important step in achieving another important objective, which is e-administration. All this reduces management costs in enterprises, waiting times in customs procedures and delineates responsibility in the proceedings, allowing more efficient economy and all participating entities. The Slovenian customs service is contemporary and responsive and so enables the Slovenian economy for carrying out a number of simplified customs procedures and helps it to become a modern electronic commerce. The information development of the Slovenian customs is on a high level and makes possible that business subjects gain much more than just a substantial relief in operation with the customs in comparison with the period before Slovenia joined the EU.
