Title:THE IMPACT OF BAD HABITS ON TEETH AND ORAL CAVITY
Abstract:My diploma work called Influence of bad habits on healthy teeth and oral cavity consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. We described most common bad habits of children: sucking a pacifier, bottle feeding, sucking a thumb, eating sweets and sweet drinks and chewing objects. We also introduced the importance of care for healthy teeth, oral hygiene, dentists, role of parents and teachers in keeping the teeth healthy. The empirical part introduces the results of the research which we acquired by means of a questionnaire completed by the parents of children attending the Kindergarten Slivnica in 2010. The purpose of the research was to point to most common bad habits which influence the health of teeth of children in the Kindergarten Slivnica and if parents are aware of these bad habits and whether they try to get rid of these habits. The results of the anonymous questionnaire have been examined and shown as graphs. We came to the conclusion that most common habits of children in the Kindergarten Slivnica are eating sweets, drinking sweet drinks, sucking a pacifier, bottle feeding and sucking the thumb. Parents mostly tried to eliminate the bad habit and they were successful. Some of them were not successful and some of them even did not try to eliminate a bad habit, which is worrying since these parents are obviously not aware of how bad habits can influence healthy teeth and oral cavity.
Keywords:pre-school child, care for healthy teeth and oral cavity, bad habits, preventing bad habits
