|Opis:||In the Slovenian literary space Ciril Kosmač is known as a prolific writer of short stories, especially novels. He belongs to the social-realistic authors, who puts elements of new realism in their texts, while slowly disrupting old patterns of expressionism. In the archaic world of the Tolmin region – which is the center of his novels – he puts stories of village weirdos, freaks, fools, physically and mentally disabled poor men, through which he raises fundamental human questions about happiness, life, beauty and freedom.
My diploma, entitled The concept of animals in Kosmač's short prose, discusses about the animal motifs, symbolism and contains similes with animal base areas. Kosmač includes a lot of domestic animals, forest and wild animals, different species of birds-either domestic or wild as well as ugly, dangerous and harmful animals in his novels. With some of them, he expresses his own longing after happiness, freedom, with others he points out, as a critic, the difficult social and mental distresses, with those Kosmač's character, in the hard Slovenian coutryside by the time before Second World War and immediately after it, had to face with it. By including the animals in this novels and by designing them we can reveal the authors sense of humour, irony and even grotesque. The speciallity of Kosmač's prose is also reflected in his sensitivity for beauty, goodness and ethical strength.
The writers growing with the home landscape, attachment to the tradition of ancestros and the fusion with the primal life of a village weirdo inspired the living nation words and many other nation similes. Particularly with animal similes Kosmač does accurately charactarizes his characters and with that he, on a different, more interesting, scenic and mostly more striking manner, shows and indicates the good and bad attributes. Thereby it is often a negative evaluation or ridicule, with which he creates a special atmosphere. Because of all the used similes, the world is, shown by Ciril Kosmač's novels, especially live, colourful and variable.|
