Abstract:V diplomskem delu sem se lotil raziskovanja problema in obravnave razpada Jugoslavije v izbranih treh romanih Dževada Karahasana in enem esejskem delu. To so romani: Nočni shod (Noćno vijeće), Sara in Serafina (Sara i Serafina) Šahrijarjev prstan (Šahrijarov prsten) ter esejsko delo Dnevnik selitve (Dnevnik selidbe).

Title:The death of Yugoslavia in the selected works of Đževad Karahasan
Abstract:In my diploma paper I researched and dealt with the problem of the break-up of Yugoslavia as described in three selected novels and an essay by Dževad Karahasan. These are the novels: Nightly advice (Noćno vijeće), Sara and Serafina (Sara i Serafina), Šahrijar’s ring (Šahrijarov prsten) and the essay titled Sarajevo, Exodus of a City (Dnevnik selidbe). In my research I mostly concentrated on the author’s life in the occupied Sarajevo which has had a decisive impact on him, and a problem which never before represented an obstacle but has appeared to be a very important issue since the beginning of the war, this is the question of nationality. I have chosen the author because of two reasons. The first reason is his ability to report about the horrors of war that he has witnessed and the second reason is his knowledge of the problem of nationality as his wife is Serbian. The national differences that have never been an issue before are the leading motive in his novels. In the selected novels and in the essay we can read about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina before and after the war. There is shown the psychological profile of the protagonists that are waiting for a catastrophe to happen and their fear of war. We can also see the author’s perception of the situation as it is, especially in Sarajevo and in Bosnia and Herzegovina and his search for the answer to the question how to exceed and overcome this. In two literary works the main protagonist is the author himself who is subjectively describing the events that are happening in his country. In the other two works the leading protagonists are an immigrant who returns to Bosnia and Herzegovina after twenty-five years and tries to understand what is happening in the country and an old lady who in no way wants to leave her occupied home and prefers to live under occupation rather than leave and miss her home afterwards. My diploma paper describes the life of the people in Sarajevo and other cities that were particularly hurt by the war, the relationships between people during the war and the appearance of grotesque elements in the selected works of Dzevad Karahasan.
