Abstract:Diplomsko delo sledi postopnemu oblikovanju politične zavesti Georga Orwella, predstavljene v delih Pot v Wigan Pier in Živalska farma.

Title:FROM CAPITALISM TO COMMUNISM: ORWELL´S SOCIALISM
Abstract:Graduation Thesis analyzes gradual formation of George Orwell’s political thought presented in The Road to Wigan Pier and Animal Farm. World War I and the Great Depression that followed produced a feeling of general insecurity and instability and Orwell was affected by the severe economic, financial and moral crisis in the 1930s as well. From the viewpoint of a representative of the upper class he analyzed the effects the crisis had on the industrial north in Great Britain. He reached a conclusion that it affected the working class the most. The result of his exploration is presented in The Road to Wigan Pier. The work is a sharp criticism of industrialism and Capitalism and Orwell concluded that the only way out of crisis is Socialism. However, direct encounter with Communist manipulations opened his eyes and from mid 1930s he directed all his political writings against totalitarianism. Because of its great anti-Stalinist message we consider Animal Farm one of the most important Orwell’s political works.
