Uvodne besede so namenjene romanu dvajsetega stoletja in aktualni študiji o tradicionalnem modificiranem slovenskem romanu. S pomočjo posameznih študij so v diplomskem delu določene smeri in dinamika slovenskega literarnega dogajanja ob koncu dvajsetega stoletja.

Title:THE SLOVENE NOVEL AT THE TURN OF THE MILLENNIUM
Abstract:The twentieth century is the period of the novel, which played an important role after 1990 also in Slovenia and went through a lot of changes within this period. My dissertation includes the interpretation of thirteen novels published from 1990 to 2010. Accordingly, the dissertation title is Slovene Novel at the Turn of the Millennium. The aim and the purpose of my dissertation is the interpretation of particular novels and the systematic integration of sources (novels) into the dynamics of the twentieth century's novel. Thus, trends and currents of that period are shown and some new trends discovered which appear in the selected corpus. Introduction focuses on the twentieth century's novel and on the present study of traditional modified Slovene novel. By means of particular studies, trends and dynamics of Slovene literary development by the end of the twentieth century are defined in the dissertation. Through the use of sources or particular interpreted novels, these trends are supported or refuted on the grounds of conceptual, thematic, stylistic or linguistic ingredients of particular novels of this period. Slovene novel after 1990 still maintains some postmodern and modern elements; realism should not be disregarded as well, which appears in new forms in new novels. Modern novel brings novelties mainly in the area of eroticism, fiction and humour. Existentialism is present in all sources as each novel and thus its main character is liable to the question about the residential and human existence, what makes them tragic. In the selected corpus a great political influence over the authors of that period is noticeable (the fall of Yugoslavia, the independence of Slovenia and the period under fascist regime).
Keywords:novel, modern Slovene novel, Modernism, Postmodernism, Existentialism, Postrealism, war, eroticism, fiction, humour.
