Title:TRANSLATION SHIFTS IN TENNESSEE WILLIAMS' A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE
Abstract:The aim of my diploma paper was to prove that shifts on the microstructural level influence those on the macrostructural level. For a better establishment of those shifts I used the method by Kitty M. Van Leuven-Zwart, in addition I also presented another method by Adrienne Brieffies. Using Leuven-Zwart’s method, I have identified several translation shifts in the Slovene translation of the play, translated by Zdravko Duša. Regarding the frequency of translation shifts that occurred in the translation, stylistic modulation/ specification prevails. Those shifts occurred mainly in the language use of the main female character, Blanche DuBois, and conesquently changed her character, turning her into another person.
