Title:VIZUALIZACIJA GEOMETRIJSKIH KOZMOLOŠKIH PODATKOV

Abstract:Kozmološka računalniška vizualizacija omogoča astronomom nov pogled nad kozmosom in odkrivanje neznanih področij. Geometrijski kozmološki podatki, ki so pridobljeni iz različnih virov, so predstavljeni v 3D točkah s pripadajočimi lastnostmi. Zaradi naravnega obsega kozmosa je velika količina podatkov problem, ki zelo oteži realno-časovnost vizualizacije na obstoječi računalniški tehnologiji. V diplomskem delu predstavimo rešitev, ki temelji na pohitritvenih pristopih računalniške geometrije. Najprej predobdelamo podatke s prostorsko umestitvijo točk v osmiško drevo, nato sledi vizualizacija, kjer pred izrisovanjem določimo področje vidnosti in stopnjo podrobnosti. S tem zmanjšamo breme strojne opreme, ker izločimo velike količine točk glede na njihovo vidnost. Izdelali smo orodje za interaktivno vizualizacijo kozmoloških podatkov (ang. Cosmological Dataset Visualizator, CDV) s katerim je možno izvajati tudi nekatere operacije nad vizualiziranimi podatki (iskanje objektov, označevanje zanimivih področij in vizualizacija vektorjev hitrosti).

Title:VISUALIZATION OF GEOMETRIC COSMOLOGICAL DATA
Abstract:A cosmological computer-based visualization allows astronomers a new view of cosmos and discovering its unknown areas. Geometric cosmological data originating from various sources is represented as a set of 3D points with their properties. Because of the size of the cosmos, huge amounts of data cause considerable problems at real-time visualization. In our thesis we present a solution based on acceleration techniques of computational geometry. At first, we align the data into an octree. Before rendering, the level of detail and viewing frustum are defined. To reduce the graphical hardware load, large amounts of points are culled regarding on their visibility. We programmed an application Cosmological Dataset Visualizator (CDV), which enables an interactive visualization and some additional operations (object search, area of interest selection and velocity vectors visualization).
