Abstract:V diplomskem delu je predstavljen zagorski premogovnik, katerega začetki segajo v sredino 18. stoletja. V prvem delu so opisane geografsko-geološke značilnosti območja zagorske doline, ki so omogočile razvoj in organiziranost premogovnika in ostalih industrijskih obratov. Prvo dovoljenje za pridobivanje premoga je bilo izdano 11. novembra 1755, s katerim se je uradno začela zgodovina rudarjenja na slovenskem narodnostnem ozemlju. Zagorje je sredi 19. stoletja postalo središče premogovništva in topilniške industrije v takratni deželi Kranjski. Skozi zgodovino so le-ti krojili socialno podobo kraja, kar je vidno v načinu gradnje rudarskih kolonij in bivanja v njih. Življenje rudarjev so vseskozi spremljali: uniforma, rudarski znak in zastava ter njihova zavetnica sv. Barbara. Rudarjem je med delom v rudniku hudomušno nagajal Perkmandeljc.

Title:THE ZAGORJE COAL MINE AND ITS COAL MINERS UNTIL THE WORLD WAR I.
Abstract:In my diploma thesis the Zagorje coalmine, the beginnings of which date back to the middle of the 18th century, is presented. In the first part, I describe the geographical – geological characteristics of the Zagorje valley, that enabled the development and organisation of the coal mine and the other industrial plants. The first mining licence was gained on the 11th November 1755, which was the official beginning of the coal mining in the Slovene national territory. In the middle of the 19th century, Zagorje became the centre of the coal mining and soluble industry in the then Carniola. The glass factory, the lead foundry, the zinc plant, the lime kiln plant and the stamp mill were aall under the wing of The Zagorje Coal Mining Company. Due to the construction of the south railway which meant the cheaper transport, coal was in greater demand. The number of employed coal miners grew. I then describe the life of the miners who created the social image of the place throughout the history. This is evident in the way of building the coal miners` homes and their lifestyle which is characteristic for their mine uniform, a mine sign, a mine flag and the patron saint of miners, St. Barbara. I also mention the legendary mine dwarf, Perkmandeljc, who played tricks on miners.
