Title:Danger of long-range per oral hypoglicemics used by elderly
Abstract:Diabetes is a group of metabolic disorders, their common characteristic is chronic hyperglycemia caused by defective insulin secretion or their lack of action and / or both. This results in impaired metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Glucose is one of the most important fuels of the organism. Since it depends on the proper functioning of many organs and tissues. The organism has a more precise mechanisms for the maintenance of glycemic control within narrow physiological limits. Malfunction of these mechanisms may cause a decline in glucose concentrations below the normal limit and cause hypoglycemia, which can be rewritten with appropriate symptoms and signs. The thesis, we wanted to determine the extent to which the elderly in own home, where residents are familiar with diabetes and hypoglycemia, and whether they know what are the risks of treatment with oral antidiabetic therapy. We also want to determine who shall provide them with much information and assistance for the treatment of diabetes and hypoglycaemia. In a survey through questionnaires involving thirty selected elderly, who have diabetes and are treated with oral hypoglycemic agents in the home for the elderly. We found that elderly respondents aware of the lack of preventive measures to prevent hypoglycaemia and to the individual about their health and treatment of diabetes or do not know. Do not know that receiving oral antidiabetic therapy for diabetes.
