| Abstract: | In the dictionary the word "fairy tale" is defined as "a story for children in which magical things happen" (Longman, 2000: 233). Fairy tales should be read to children not only by their parents, but also by teachers in school, because they can learn so much from them. They are one of the fewest genres, which encourage the children's imagination, develop their intellect and show the solution to problems. Because they can easily identify with the main character, he or she can teach them to control their negative qualities and become a better person. In the diploma work the fairy tale is described and explained. In the next chapters characteristics of fairy tales are listed and described. For the purpose of this study also the theory of the English verb is introduced. One of the most important questions of this diploma work is, if pupils at the age of seven, eight and nine years are able to assimilate irregular verb forms in the past if they did not assimilate those in the present yet. |
