Title:THE OCCURRENCE OF HOSPITAL INFECTIONS IN OLD PEOPLE'S HOMES AS AN INDICATOR OF QUALITY HEALTH CARE ACCORDING TO E-QALIN SISTEM
Abstract:Diploma thesis includes a description of hospita-acquired l infection, which is most common in old people's homes, it is an infection with bacteria called Staphilococcus aureus resistant to antibiotic Methicillin (hereinafter referred to as MRSA. We have presented the most common means of transmission of hospital-acquired infections, such as contaminated hands of care staff and f infected acilities for health care, which represents a major problem. We have described ways of preventing hospital-acquired infections, such as cleaning and disinfecting hands of care staff, usage of medical gloves and cleansing and disinfection of surfaces and tools for care. We have presented an elderly person and his stay in the home. For the elderly coming into a new living environment in residential care represents a great stress, so the elderly must be accepted by a nursing team with a special individual attention. It is also important to work closely with relatives and nursing staff which provides a positive impact on their elderly. With the survey, which was implemented in a home for old persons, we have established knowledge of the activities for the prevention of hospital-aquired infections among the nursing staff. The survey was based on quantitative methodologies. We undertook a retrospective analysis of infection through medical records of residents. We found that the number of MRSA infections from 2005 to 2007 decreased. We carried out the surveys by questionnaire, where we observed how much the nursing team knows the concept of MRSA, when they carried out cleaning and disinfecting hands. We found that the nursing home team is familiar with the concept of MRSA and is aware of measures to prevent hospital infections. We've also found that the nursing team wants more education on the topic of hospital infections. Infections ingeneral, in older people's homes can not be avoided, it is possible to reduce them to an acceptable minimum level, by the education of nursing staff and full implementation of cleaning and disinfecting hands and tools.
Keywords:MRSA, hospital-aquired infections, the elderly, elderly people's home, disinfecting hands.
