Abstract:Izhodišča: Centralni venski katetri (CVK) so danes postali nujno potrebni pripomočki sodobne zdravstvene prakse.

Title:Appropriate care of central vein catheters and infections prevention
Abstract:Starting-point: Central vein catheter (CVK) is nowadays a necessary instrument in contemporary health practice. CVK infections are dangerous, sometimes even fatal entanglement in medical treatment of those who are critically ill. Medical treatment of those complications extends the hospitalization period and therefore increases the costs. It is an entanglement which you can prevent or limit with the right medical treatment and nursing. Purpose: To present the right care of central vein catheters and the prevention of its infection. Methods: The research was carried out amongst the medical care employees at the Internal medicine and Intensive internal medicine Department of General hospital Slovenj Gradec. There were 50 interviewees included. Descriptive method was used for data illustration. Questionnaire contained 8 closed type questions, 5 half-opened type questions and 1 opened type question, where the interviewees have written down the answer to the question on their own. Questionnaire was anonymous and served only as the data based purposes for my diploma work. Results: Questionnaire analysis confirmed our anticipations that the medical workers are qualified, that we use contemporary knowledges and that we have enough material to assure the safety for the patient. Discussion: on the base of our findings we can say that the supervision and handling with central vein catheters is very responsible and demanding work. Because of the permanent supervision and vigilance there are less complications while treating the patients. It is very important that the health workers know the infection risk factors and measures, with which we can reduce the number of infections or suppress it.
