1. The prospects for consumer-oriented social mediaRoger Clarke, 2014, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background and Purpose: The term ‘social media’ refers to a cluster of applications and online services that support human interaction and content broadcasting and sharing. Current services are isolated islands or ‘walled gardens’, and are based on a business model that is highly exploitative of individuals and their data.
Design/Methodology/Approach: Surveys of the refereed literature have been undertaken on several occasions during the period 2012-13. Reviews were conducted of social media services that are reasonably described as ‘consumer-oriented’. Media reports on those services were uncovered. The available information was then subjected to analysis, including reflection based on prior research conducted by the author.
Results: Required characteristics of consumer-oriented social media, and barriers to emergence and adoption of such services were identified. That provided a basis for proposing means to overcome those barriers. Key impediments to the emergence of such services were identified, and means of overcoming the impediments outlined.
Conclusion: An alternative, consumer-oriented approach is feasible, involving open architecture, inter-operability and portability features, fair terms and privacy-sensitivity.

2. Impact of terms-of-trade on Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Croatia in the short runKarol Szomolányi, Martin Lukáčik, Adriana Lukáčiková, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The terms-of-trade shocks are not main source of business cycles in three post-communist countries (i.e., Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Croatia). The zero or negative reactions of the trade balance in terms-of-trade positive shocks in the countries exhibit the Obstfeld-Svensson-Razin effect, according to which the Harberger-Laursen-Metzler positive effect on terms-of-trade indicates that the smaller the trade balance, the more persistent the terms-of-trade shock is. The conclusions come from the structural vector autoregressive analysis of the cyclical components of terms-of-trade, trade balance, output, consumption, and investment in three post-communist countries.

3. English modal verbs in modal verb phrase structures and lexical associations of modality in "standard terms and conditions of sale"Nataša Gajšt, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This paper presents the findings of a corpus-based analysis of English modal verbs and semi-modals in modal verb phrase structures as well as lexical association of modality in ʼstandard terms and conditions of saleʼ, which are legally binding documents in the domain of commerce and whose purpose is to govern the obligations and rights of sellers and buyers in the transaction of goods for payment. Our research has established that the most frequent modal verbs in these documents are shall, will, may, must and can, and that the most common modal verb phrase structures in are ʼmodal+infinitiveʼ and ʼmodal+be+past participleʼ. We found 718 different lexical verbs that indicate actions, states and conditions associated with commercial transactions. These results correspond with the definition of these documents. Our findings are a demonstration of how language expresses the characteristics of a legal text type in a professional domain of commerce/trade.

4. Technical terminology in standard terms and conditions of sale : a corpus-based study of high frequency nouns and their collocationsNataša Gajšt, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Technical terminology, which comprises individual words and various kinds of more or less fixed word partnerships, constitutes an important part of professional discourse. A good command of domain specific collocations adds to the proficiency in specialist communication in any domain, including commerce. The aim of this paper is to present the findings of a corpus-based study of the most common collocations of 16 high-frequency nouns in 'standard terms and conditions of sale' as authentic, commerce-related documents. Our research shows that the most frequent nouns form a substantial number of significant collocations which can be considered technical terminology in the field of commerce. In turn, these findings can be used as the basis for designing teaching syllabi and teaching materials for courses in English for commerce and trade.

5. LANGUAGE VARIETIES IN THE SYNCHRONIZATION OF THE FILMS MADAGASCAR 3 AND OPEN SEASONMaruša Babič, 2015, diplomsko delo Opis: This graduation thesis, entitled Language varieties in the synchronization of the films Madagascar 3 and Open season, consists of two main parts. The theoretical part defines synchronization as a form of audiovisual translation and focuses on the synchronization of animated films. Animated films are made mostly for the youngest viewers, therefore the subject of translating for children is examined. The language varieties of Slovene and English language are described, since there are different dialects represented in the analyzed animated films. The second part focuses on the empirical research, where the language varieties in the synchronization of the animated films Madagascar 3 and Open season are analyzed. The film speech was transcribed for the purpose to conduct the analysis of the language varieties. The prevailing speech variety is colloquial Standard Slovene with the features of colloquial language of Ljubljana. The linguistic features of the main characters were identified and it was investigated how they affect characterization process. Since both films originate from American culture, an analysis of the translation culture-specific and idiomatic expressions was also implemented. The aim of this graduation thesis is to analyze language varieties in the synchronization of the films and investigate whether colloquial language of Ljubljana is used more than other regional colloquial varieties.

TEENAGE SLANG IN THE CONTEMPORARY BRITISH NOVEL ANGUS, THONGS AND PERFECT SNOGGING BY LOUISE RENNISONCristina Stoianova, 2014, diplomsko delo Opis: The thesis Teenage Slang In The Contemporary British Novel Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging by Louise Rennison presents the novel of a teenage girl’s life in the British culture nowadays, and was published in 1999. The novel is based on a fictional character Georgia Nicolson, writing a diary about the things she deals with. Slang used in this novel is the main focus of the thesis. The paper begins with some basic definitions (such as that of slang, etc.), and continues with the description and characteristics of teenagers with the emphasis on the language they use. Certain explanations, specific examples and data about the novel are added at the end of the first part. The second part, the main part of the thesis, focuses on three hypotheses as the key research areas of the thesis. These are as follows: identifying an area of early teen slang distinct from other groups’ slang usage; exploring whether teens use slang as code, as image or as rebellion; and establishing a select glossary of slang terms. The third part of the thesis is the conclusion, summing up the main points of my research. The practical part is presented as an appendix at the end. It involves a short collection of slang words used in the novel and the explanation of each word, given the specific context obtained from the novel.
