The comparison of the speed of solving chemistry calculation tasks in the traditional way and with the use of ICT
Brina Dojer, Matjaž Kristl, Andrej Šorgo, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Efficiency of time use is a key factor in chemistry calculation tasks, affecting both, personal and professional domains. This study is dedicated to finding the fastest methods for accomplishing chemistry tasks. Our investigation delves into the comparative temporal outlays made by students as they engage three different approaches: using an electronic calculator, a basic calculator app on a smartphone, and a desktop computer calculator. As part of our research, we examine a cohort of 52 Slovenian university students, preservice teachers who were actively enrolled in chemistry and related science programs, spanning the academic years of 2019 and 2022. The results from 2019 show that students can solve the chemistry tasks most quickly using electronic calculator and take the most time to calculate the tasks using smartphones (Δmean = 133 s; ΔSD = 5 s; Δmin = 97 s; Δmax = 131 s). An even larger difference is observed from the 2022 study year (Δmean = 189 s; ΔSD = 129 s; Δmin = 170 s; Δmax = 625 s). In summary, although smartphones are recognised as a multitasking device, replacing traditional single-purpose devices, they have not been able to outperform them.

Solution of the problem of critical path’s finding in Excel on the basis of reducing it to ordinary transportation task
Mimo Drašković, Ludmila Malyaretz, Oleksandr Dorokhov, 2016, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: The problem of determining the critical path for the scheduling tasks has been considered. An original technique for practical calculations using the available Solver add-on in Excel has been described. The proposed approach is based on reducing the task to solving the ordinary transportation problem, in particular to the problem of finding the longest path. Examples of solutions with the test input data and corresponding screenshots are given. The practical steps of the user’s action in the process of direct solution in Excel are consistently described. The analysis of the results of the proposed method has been performed and presented. It is established that presented method for calculating the critical path requires minimal efforts from the users, regardless of the dimension of the tasks.

Robust sex differences in jigsaw puzzle solving : are boys really better in most visuospatial tasks?
Vid Kocijan, Marina Horvat, Gregor Majdič, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Sex differences are consistently reported in different visuospatial tasks with men usually performing better in mental rotation tests while women are better on tests for memory of object locations. In the present study, we investigated sex differences in solving jigsaw puzzles in children. In total 22 boys and 24 girls were tested using custom build tablet application representing a jigsaw puzzle consisting of 25 pieces and featuring three different pictures. Girls outperformed boys in solving jigsaw puzzles regardless of the picture. Girls were faster than boys in solving the puzzle, made less incorrect moves with the pieces of the puzzle, and spent less time moving the pieces around the tablet. It appears that the strategy of solving the jigsaw puzzle was the main factor affecting differences in success, as girls tend to solve the puzzle more systematically while boys performed more trial and error attempts, thus having more incorrect moves with the puzzle pieces. Results of this study suggest a very robust sex difference in solving the jigsaw puzzle with girls outperforming boys by a large margin.

PERCEPTION AND PRODUCTION IN EARLY FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING THROUGH SPOKEN AND WRITTEN WORD
Suzana Miljević, 2016, diplomsko delo

Opis: Implementation of early foreign language learning in the national curriculum for primary education has been a significant and a popular issue among the language researchers, all the professionals involved in the process of early education and parents. The modern theories and research propose early foreign language learning in primary schools as highly beneficial, crucial and necessary in a sense of spontaneous language acquisition through simple and non-demanding tasks, which are primarily based on auditory perception and physical response as production. In contrast to popular approaches in early foreign language teaching, based on the relation between the tasks’ difficulties and language acquisition, this thesis explores the connection and defines the importance of the attention span in relation to successful language acquisition, in comparison to the importance of the task difficulty. The research was carried out at the Primary School Ljubečna among the second and third grade students, who took part in the listening and reading comprehension examination, which was structured for attention observation and measurement purposes. Each group of the second and the third grade students took a listening and a reading comprehension test. The results and observations of the testing were shown to lead to accurate determinations of the attention influence on early language acquisition. This indicates that there is a possibility that the early reading and writing are not adverse to the process of early foreign language learning and foremost that difficulty of tasks is not in a directly proportional relation to perception and production, namely less demanding tasks are not necessarily completed more successfully than tasks that are more complex.
