Materials for HybridNeuro webinar titled "Validation of results: statistical models and MU identification accuracy"
Aleš Holobar, Nina Murks, 2024, complete scientific database of research data

Abstract: This dataset contains a collection of teaching materials that were used in the HybridNeuro project webinar titled "Validation of results: statistical models and MU identification accuracy". The webinar was presented by Aleš Holobar and covered the complexities of motor unit (MU) identification accuracy, regression analysis and Bayesian models. The primary aim of the webinar was to spark a robust discussion within the scientific community, particularly focusing on the application and implications of linear mixed models and Bayesian regression in the realm of MU identification. The teaching materials include Matlab and R source code for statistical analysis of the included data, as well as three examples of MU identification results in CSV format (from both synthetic and experimental HDEMG signals). The presentation slides in PDF format are also included. The dataset is approximately 9 MB in size.

Abstract: Titania nanotubes are gaining prominence in the biomedical field as implant materials due to their mechanical durability, nano-rough properties, and positive influence on cellular response. This work aimed to synthesize titania and titanium oxynitride (TieOeN) nano- tubular arrays on TiAl6V4 substrates using an anodic oxidation process followed by annealing in air or by additional nitridation in NH3 atmosphere. Different nanotubular layers of unique morphology and structure were fabricated and investigated using advanced surface analysis and biocompatibility tests. In-depth surface analysis was per- formed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), 3D profilometry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy (ToF-SIMS). Cell testing using adipose- derived mesenchymal stem cells and human fetal osteoblasts demonstrated good cell viability, high proliferative capacity, and a favorable overall effect on cell morphology for the TieOeN nanotubes.

Influence of rotor structure on cogging torque in a surface-mounted PM-generator
Marian Greconici, Gheorghe Madescu, Daniela Milosevici, Marius Biriescu, Martian Mot, 2019, professional article

Abstract: This paper deals with the analysis of the cogging torque in a surface-mounted permanent magnet generator in order to determine some techniques to minimize or eliminate the cogging torque. The simulation with finite element method (FEM) was carryout. A four-pole surface-mounted PM generator is investigated in the paper using FEM. The paper analyses the possibilities to reduce this type of torque by producing some asymmetry in the rotor structure. Two types of asymmetry were analysed: the PM pole arc with different widths, and the shifting of the PM. The numerical results obtained in the asymmetrical cases with symmetrical ones were compared and discussed. Finally, some conclusions are highlighted regarding the simulated results.

The limit values and the distribution of three-dimensional passive earth pressures
Stanislav Škrabl, 2008, original scientific article

Abstract: This paper presents a novel approach to the determination of the critical distribution and limit values of three-dimensional passive soil pressures acting on flexible walls following the upper-bound method within the framework of the limit-analysis theory. The method of limit analysis with a set of three-dimensional kinematically admissible hyperbolic translational failure mechanisms is used to determine the critical distribution of the passive pressures along the retaining structurećs height. The intensity of thepassive pressures is gradually determined with the mentioned translational failure mechanisms in the top-down direction. Thus, the critical distribution, the trust point and the resultant of the passive pressures that can be activated at the limit state for the chosen kinematic model are obtained. The results of the analyses show that the total sum of passive pressures, considering the critical distribution, is lower than the comparable values published in the literature. Furthermore, the trust point of the passive pressure resultant is independent of the friction between the retaining structures and the soil.

The influence of surface coatings on the tooth tip deflection of polymer gears
Boštjan Trobentar, Srečko Glodež, Jože Flašker, Boštjan Zafošnik, 2016, original scientific article

Abstract: When designing gear drives made of polymer, the tooth tip deflection is a crucial parameter in respect to the proper gear drive operation. Excessive tooth tip deflection can lead to serious disturbances of gear meshing and consequently to increased noise and wear of the teeth flanks. In such cases the tooth tip deflection can be reduced through the use of stiff surface coatings on the tooth flanks. In this paper the influence of different coating materials and thicknesses on the tooth tip deflection of polymer gears is analysed using comprehensive finite element computational analysis. The numerical results obtained are then used to define an approximate equation for the calculation of gear tooth tip deflection for the coating material used and the thickness of the surface coating layer. The results show that the tooth tip deflection decreases with large values of the coating material Young’s modulus and with the coating layer thickness.

Upper-bound solutions of three-dimensional passive earth pressures
Stanislav Škrabl, Borut Macuh, 2005, original scientific article

Abstract: This paper presents a novel approach to the determination of passive soil pressures: using the upper-bound method within the framework of limit analysistheory. It is based on a three-dimensional, kinematically admissible, rotational, hyperbolical failure mechanism. The failure mechanism is composed of the central and two lateral bodies, which are connected by a common velocity field. This approach is similar to two-dimensional stability analyses, where the log spiral potential failure surface is considered. The front surface of the central body interacts with the retaining wallč the uppersurface can be loaded by surcharge loadingč and the log spiral segment defines the curved failure surface of the central part. The cross sections of the lateral bodies are in agreement with the cross section of the central body. On the outer side, they are laterally bounded by a curved and kinematically admissible hyperbolic surface, which is defined by enveloping the hyperbolical half cones and part of the case surface of the leading half cone. The results give values for the passive soil pressure coefficients that are for most cases lower than the values determined by the upper-bound method of limit analysis for a translational failure mechanism, as published in the literature.

Modelling of surface crack growth under lubricated rolling-sliding contact loading
Boštjan Zafošnik, Zoran Ren, Jože Flašker, Gennady Mishuris, 2005, original scientific article

Abstract: The paper describes modelling approach to computational simulation of surface crack growth subjected to lubricated rolling-sliding contact conditions. The model considers the size and orientation of the initial crack, normal and tangential loading due to rolling-sliding contact and the influence of fluid trapped inside the crack by a hydraulic pressure mechanism. The motion of the contact sliding load is simulated with different load cases. The strain energy density (SED) and maximum tangential stress (MTS) crack propagation criteria are modified to account for the influence of internal pressure along the crack surfaces due to trapped fluid. The developed model is used to simulate surface crack growth on a gear tooth flank, which has been also experimentally tested. It is shown that the crack growth path, determined with modified crack propagation criteria, is more accurately predicted than by using the criteria in its classical form.
