A framework for managing future supply chain trends: utilization of lean, agile and leagile strategies

Opis: The supply chain has become very essential to run any business nowadays. Throughout the history of business, the professionals have been trying always to find out the best practice, and as long as the business concept is evolved over time, the practice, methodologies and techniques of doing the business also have been evolved. This evolvement led to the concept of supply chain initially and then later it became essential to have strategy for supply chain. The evolvement of the markets, globalization, and new technologies became very decisive subjects for building any supply chain and developing its strategy, but there are many other events that may take place which could enforce the supply chain decision makers to change the current approach of running their business. The dynamic business environment and the possible future trends of the global markets represent a real challenge for development of appropriate supply chain strategies, like lean, agility, and leagility. Therefore, it is very important to assess how different possible strategies are suitable for the future changes of the markets? This is to enable the supply chain to be prepared with adequate strategies for different future scenarios. To achieve this aim of preparing the supply chains for the future with adequate strategies, a deep study is done to research lean, agility and leagility, explaining the similarities and differences of these concepts. These strategies are dealing with the most important factors in supply chains; the time and the cost, what is the key reason for selecting these particular strategies lies in the fact, that they are concerned with improving the effectiveness and responsiveness in the supply chain and this is extremely important for the future. We continued study of these strategies by development of three possible future scenarios for energy scarcity, new international monetary system, and wars. The reason of developing these particular scenarios is because they are concerned with the most important political and economic events which could happen and affect the supply chains in the future (EY, 2013; Cook, 2006; Sokov, 2015). These scenarios are established to anticipate the possible challenges which could face the supply chain strategies in the future and to evaluate the suitability of supply chain strategies for such future scenarios. A survey of 150 supply chain professionals, who are working currently in the field of supply chain management, is done in two phases. The first phase is focusing on recognition of the opinions of surveyed supply chain professionals towards the supply chain strategies and their utilization. Based on the theoretical knowledge of the academic literature reviewed in this research, proposed scenarios, and the feedback of professionals in the survey, it was evident that supply chains’ managers need adequate framework, which will support improvement of current and future supply chain management. Therefore, the grounded theory methodology is used to create a new conceptual framework. The core idea of the proposed framework is to improve the global sourcing practice, which consequently will enable improving the management of supply chains according to the predicted scenarios. A second phase of survey is conducted to present the proposed framework to the supply chain professionals for evaluation. The proposed framework adds value to the global sourcing process, which enhancing the supply chain collaboration and helps to support the selected supply chain strategies for consideration – i.e., lean, agility, and leagility, to work better in the future. The proposed framework represents scientific contribution to the supply chain strategies utilization in practice. Bullwhip effect in the information flow of a supply chain

Opis: The main goal of our research is to analyze and display causes of a bullwhip effect formation within a supply chain, as well as to provide the appropriate solutions to limit the occurrence of the bullwhip effect by using the proper information flow and partners´ cooperation within the supply chain. The bullwhip effect is one of the most important issues in the supply chain management and it is present in many companies. It preserves a character of invisibility because there are lots of causes for its formation and they are usually difficult to discern. The bullwhip effect is a phenomenon of an increase in the order variability within a supply chain. The higher we are within the supply chain, the higher is the order variability. The company encountered with the whip effect can successfully reduce its impact by improving the information flow, as well as improving partners´ cooperation within the supply chain. In this way the company can limit its negative repercussions and increase the profit. The article focuses on the overview of the bullwhip effect within a distribution chain, from its causes to suggestions and measures how to ease its negative repercussions on the organisation. Part of the causes could be found in the market demand variability and in the lack of communication about the actual marked demand within the supply chain. The rest of the causes are related to obstacles that emerge among different partners within the supply chain (role of culture). A qualitative analysis is applied on the basis of the selected cognitions from the supply chain management. The quantitative analysis is based on the theoretical research of the effective flow of information among the participants and its contribution to the reduction of the bullwhip impact. The article discusses two research questions: 1) The correct information flow within the supply chain and the improvement of the communication among partners can lead to the bullwhip effect reduction, and 2) A reduction of the bullwhip influence can lead to the increase of cooperation among partners. The results of the analysis can be used for further research.

Assessing the impact of prices fluctuation on demand distortion within a multi-echelon supply chain

Opis: Price fluctuation is a practice commonly used by companies to stimulate demand and a main cause of the Bullwhip effect. Assuming a staggered step demand pattern that responds elastically to retailer’s price fluctuation, and by using a supply chain management dynamic model, we will analyse the impact of these fluctuations on the variability of the orders placed along a traditional multilevel supply chain. Subsequently, the results obtained will serve to propose a forecasting model enabling to calculate the potential variability of orders placed by each echelon on the basis of the price pattern used. Finally, under the hypothesis of an environment of collaboration between the different members of the chain, we propose a predictive model that makes it possible to quantify the distortion of the orders generated by each level.

Systemic thinking and requisite holism in mastering logistics risks

Opis: Risks in logistic processes represent one of the major issues in supply chain management nowadays. Every organization strives for success, and uninterrupted operations are the key factors in achieving this goal, which cannot be achieved without efficient risk management. In the scope of supply chain risk research, we identified some key issues in the field, the major issue being the lack of standardization and models, which can make risk management in an organization easier and more efficient. Consequently, we developed a model, which captures and identifies risks in an organization and its supply chain. It is in accordance with the general risk management standard - ISO 31000, and incorporates some relevant recent findings from general and supply chain risk management, especially from the viewpoint of public segmentation. This experimental catalogue (which is also published online) can serve as a checklist and a starting point of supply chain risk management in organizations. Its main idea is cooperation between experts from the area in order to compile an evergrowing list of possible risks and to provide an insight in the model and its value in practice, for which reason input and opinions of anyone who uses our model are greatly appreciated and included in the catalogue.

Einführung einer Verbrauchssteuerung entlang der Supply Chain eines Automobilzulieferers

Opis: Einführung in die Thematik Das Unternehmen BMTS - Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems GmbH & Co. KG ist ein Automobilzulieferer, das Abgasturbolader (ATL) für Personenkraftwagen (PKW) und leichte Nutzkraftwagen (NKW) entwickelt und produziert. BMTS wurde im Jahr 2008 gegründet und ist ein Joint Venture zwischen der Robert Bosch GmbH und der Mahle GmbH. BMTS hat drei Standorte – zwei in Deutschland und einen Produktionsstandort in Österreich (Sankt Michael ob Bleiburg), wo teilweise die Produktion und Endmontage stattfindet. Ab 2012 wurde die Serienfertigung von ATL in der neugebauten Produktionshalle in StM begonnen. Zusätzlich zu Rohteilen werden auch weitere Bauteile von externen Lieferanten beschafft. Bei der Beschaffung wie auch bei der Belieferung der Kunden spielt das Supply Chain Management – SCM eine wichtige Rolle. Im Rahmen dieser Masterarbeit wurden die Teilbereiche des SCMs bei BMTS betrachtet, die sich mit der Logistikabwicklung in StM beschäftigen. Die logistischen Prozesse werden durch einen externen Logistikdienstleister (EDL) (das Unternehmen Gebrüder Weiss (GW)) abgewickelt und gesteuert. Mit Beginn des Jahres 2012 wurde mit der Kanban-Einführung bei BMTS begonnen. Neben der Ausarbeitung der theoretischen Hintergründe zu SCM und Lean Methoden (vor allem Verbrauchssteuerung bzw. Kanban-Steuerung) wurde es im Zusammenhang mit der Einführung der Verbrauchssteuerung notwendig, eine Reihe von praxisorientierten Aufgaben bzw. Ziele bei BMTS zu erledigen. Folgende Auflistung zeigt diese: • Feststellung des IST - Standes der Lean Produktion bei BMTS, • Planung und Bewertung von verschiedenen Vorgehensweisen / Konzepten (mit der Hilfe des Wertstroms), • Auswahl des optimalen Stufenplanes für die Einführung einer Verbrauchssteuerung, • Aufbereitung der Schulungsunterlagen zum Thema Kanban und Ausführung der Schulungen, • Einführung einer Verbrauchssteuerung bei BMTS (intern und extern) im Form der Pilotprojekte, • Erarbeitung eines Kanban-Tools für die Auftragsplannung und –steuerung, • Integration in SAP, • Erarbeitung der bedeutsamen Kennzahlen. Die Arbeit wurde in acht Schritte gestaltet: Einführung in die Thematik, Theoretische Grundlagen, Analyse der Situation, Entwicklung der Grobkonzepte, Bewertung und Entscheidung, Feinplanung und Umsetzung, Darstellung der Ergebnisse und Zusammenfassung. Theoretische Grundlagen Im Folgenden wird ein Überblick über die Begrifflichkeiten Supply Chain, Lean Gedanken, Peitscheneffekt, Produktionssteuerung, Pull-Prinzip, Verbrauchssteuerung, Kanbansystem, Kanban-Kennzahlen, Nivellierung und einige Bewertungsmethoden gegeben. Supply Chain ist eine Versorgungs- oder Wertschöpfungskette, die über vor- und nachgelagerte Verbindungen an den verschiedenen Prozessen und Tätigkeiten der Wertschöpfung in Form von Produkten und Dienstleistungen für den Endkunden beteiligt sind. In Lieferketten werden Waren-, Informations- und Finanzflüsse unterschieden: Waren fließen in der Lieferkette vom Hersteller zum Verbraucher. Geld fließt in der Lieferkette in die Gegenrichtung. Die Informationen fließen zuerst vom Verbraucher zum Hersteller und danach fließen die warenbegleitenden Informationen in die Gegenrichtung [59]. Der Begriff Lean (Schankes) Management bezeichnet die Denkprinzipien, Methoden (Standardisierte Arbeit, Kanban, Visualisierung, Kaizen, Nivellierung usw.) und Verfahrensweisen zur effizienten Gestaltung der Wertschöpfungskette. Eines der Hauptziele für eine erfolgreiche Lean Philosophie ist die nachhaltige Vermeidung von Verschwendungen aller Art im Unternehmen (Überproduktion, Wartezeit, unnötiger Transport, überlange Rüstzeiten, übergröße Bestände, überflüssige Bewegungen und Fehler/Reparatur) [25]. Der Peitscheneffekt bzw. Forrester-Effekt (engl. Bullwhip-Effekt) beschreibt die Zusammenhänge zwischen Bestellmenge und Lagerbestände und behauptet, dass bereits eine marginale Veränderung in der Nachfrage auf der Ebene des Einzelhandels zu ständig steigenden Schwankungen entlang der ganzen Lief

Opis: V raziskovalnem delu smo predstavili edinstveno tehnologijo RFID (ang. Rario- Frequency Identification) in s pomočjo osnovnih strategij SCM (ang. Supply Chain Management) prikazali možne optimizacijske nastavke na nivoju celotne dobavne verige. RFID je splošen izraz, ki se uporablja za opis sistema, ki brezkontaktno, preko radijskih valov, transmitira identiteto objekta zapisano v obliki unikatne serijske številke. Koncept sistema RFID je zelo preprost. Sestavljata ga RFDI bralnik z anteno in RFID priponka (ang. TAG) z anteno, prenosni medij med čitalnikom in priponko pa so radijski valovi nizke moči. Omrežje EPC pomaga implementirati tehnologijo RFID v odprte sisteme in na ta način doseči integracijo celotne dobavne verige v enoten sistem. S pomočjo online povezave želimo na nivoju posameznega izdelka, označenega z RFID odzivniki, doseči tako imenovani »internet stvari«. Virtualni prostor, v katerem bodo imeli predmeti določeno umetno inteligenco, kar bo omogočalo komunikacijo med predmeti, predmeti in stroji, stroji in ljudmi ter predmeti in ljudmi. Področja uporabe RFID so praktično neomejena. Trenutno se RFID uporablja za označevanje in sledenje živali, prepoznavanje izdelkov v trgovinah, identificiranje ladijskih kontejnerjev, plačilo cestnine, spremljanje pošiljk v logistiki, pri izposoji knjig v knjižnicah, na parkiriščih in v garažah, za kodiranje ključev itn. Tehnologija RFID v primerjavi s črtno kodo omogoča hitrejše in natančnejše logistične procese, kar bo imelo za posledico, da RFID čez čas izpodrine uporabo črtne kode. Zelo pomembna tema pri tehnologiji RFID je standardizacija, kajti ta zagotavlja globalno povezljivost komponent sistemov RFID, ki bodo v skladu s svetovnimi regulacijami, kar je izrednega pomena pri uporabi v globalnih dobavnih verigah. V nadaljevanju smo predstavili šest osnovnih strategij SCM, ki lahko v sinergiji s tehnologijo RFID na nivoju celotne dobavne verige dosega optimizacijske potenciale. Tako smo celotno dobavno verigo razdelili na štiri sklope, kjer smo za vsak posamezni odsek preučili kake prednosti prinaša implementacija nove tehnologije. Z uvedbo nove tehnologije so povezani določeni riziki. Varstvo podatkov predstavlja poglavitnega, ki skuša obvarovati posameznega potrošnika pred zlorabo njegovih podatkov. Veliki trgovski giganti, kot so Metro, Wall Mart in Tesco uporabljajo RFID že nekaj let. Oni predstavljajo gonilno silo pri širjenju uporabe tehnologije in posredno pri zniževanju cen odzivnikov, strojne ter programske opreme. Tehnologija je trenutno predraga za majhna in srednje velika podjetja, ki pa bodo morala v prihodnosti začeti razmišljati o njeni implementaciji, kajti konkurenca z dneva v dan postaja močnejša.
