1. Are health literacy and physical literacy independent concepts? A gender-stratified analysis in medical school students from CroatiaMarijana Geets Kesic, Mia Perić, Barbara Gilić, Marko Manojlovic, Patrik Drid, Toni Modric, Željka Znidaric, Nataša Zenić, Aleksander Pajtler, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Health literacy (HL) and physical literacy (PL) are concepts responsible for achieving and
maintaining positive health behaviors. This study aimed to investigate gender-specific associations:
(i) between PL and HL; and (ii) among HL, PL, and body composition. We observed 253 students
attending health-area high schools from southern Croatia (181 girls; 16.9 ± 1.4 years). HL was
assessed by the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire, PL by the PLAYself questionnaire,
and body composition by bioimpedance analysis. The t-test was used to assess the differences
between genders, and Pearson’s correlation coefficients were calculated to establish the associations
between variables. The results showed a similar level of HL (t-test = 0.2; p = 0.83) and PL (t-test = 0.01;
p = 0.99) in boys and girls. Significant but small correlations were identified between HL and PL only
in the girls (<10% of common variance). The body composition indices were significantly correlated
with PL only in the boys (15–20% of common variance). Our research highlights the necessity of the
independent evaluation of HL and PL in adolescence. Further studies evaluating other indices of
health status in relation to PL and HL are warranted. Ključne besede: health behavior, knowledge translation, public health, community-engaged research, youth, body build Objavljeno v DKUM: 12.03.2025; Ogledov: 0; Prenosov: 0

3. The changing world dynamics of research performanceMarko Marhl, Rene Markovič, Vladimir Grubelnik, Matjaž Perc, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: In recent years, a notable diversification in the geographical representation of the World's top universities could be observed. Chinese universities play an increasingly prominent role in these rankings, thus indicating that we might be in the midst of a regional shift in academic performance. To explore this dynamics, we analyze seven years' worth of data used for university rankings by academic subjects from the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). We focus on China, Europe, the USA, and other global regions of the world. We find that China has indeed seen an unprecedented growth in Engineering and Life Sciences research, positioning itself rather firmly as a leader in these fields. Conversely, the USA leads in the Social Sciences, while Europe excels in Geography, Ecology, Public and Business Administration, and Pharmacy. Other regions worldwide stand out in Transportation Science, Nursing, and Hospitality & Tourism Management. These results reveal the evolving landscape of global academic research, highlighting regional strengths and emerging world trends in subject-specifc excellence. 4. Social aspects of electric vehicles research : trends and relations to sustainable development goalsVasja Omahne, Matjaž Knez, Matevž Obrecht, 2021, pregledni znanstveni članek Opis: E-mobility sustainability assessment is becoming more comprehensive with research integrating social aspects without focusing only on technical, economic, and/or environmental perspectives. The transportation sector is indeed one of the leading and most challenging greenhouse gaspolluters, and e-mobility is seen as one of the potential solutions; however, a social perspective must be further investigated to improve the perception of and acceptance of electric vehicles. This could consequently lead to the European Green Deal's holy grail: faster decarbonization of the transportation sector. Another way to achieve it is by promoting more comprehensive sustainable development goals. Therefore, this paper combines a systematic review of recent research with research emphasis focused on social aspects of electric vehicles and their interconnection with specific UN Sustainable Development Goals. By knowing the current research focus mainly related with "perception" of electric vehicles and assessing their social "impact" as well as an emerging area of "user experience" and their relations with UN Sustainable Development Goals enables better insight on the current and future directions of electric vehicle social sustainability research. The current priority is identified as "climate actions". Increasingly important "sustainable cities and communities" shows potential forbecoming one of the future research, policy, and community priorities. 5. Universal productivity patterns in research careersAndre S. Sunahara, Matjaž Perc, Haroldo V. Ribeiro, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: A common expectation is that career productivity peaks rather early and then gradually declines with seniority. But whether this holds true is still an open question. Here we investigate the productivity trajectories of almost 8500 scientists from over 50 disciplines using methods from time-series analysis, dimensionality reduction, and network science, showing that there exist six universal productivity patterns in research. Based on clusters of productivity trajectories and network representations where researchers with similar productivity patterns are connected, we identify constant, u-shaped, decreasing, periodic-like, increasing, and canonical productivity patterns, with the latter two describing almost three-fourths of researchers. In fact, we find that canonical curves are the most prevalent, but contrary to expectations, productivity peaks occur much more frequently around midcareer rather than early. These results outline the boundaries of possible career paths in science and caution against the adoption of stereotypes in tenure and funding decisions. 6. Translating Answers to Open-ended Questions in Multi-lingual Surveys. A Case Study of the Cross-national Longitudinal Study: Older Audiences in the Digital Media EnvironmentUrša Marinšek, 2024, magistrsko delo Opis: This thesis looks into the process of translating answers in multi-lingual longitudinal surveys. It provides a literature review on translation in similar studies, but more importantly, through qualitative interviews with researchers involved in an international longitudinal study, it explores concrete strategies and challenges.
The Cross-National Longitudinal Study: Older Audiences in the Digital Media Environment is investigated as a case study. The main working language in the study is English and the used questionnaire includes closed- and open-ended questions. Dealing with respondents’ answers includes translating answers to English from many languages.
Researchers in this study do not pay attention to translating answers to great extent, and some think open-ended questions are not necessary in quantitative research. Those who translated answers had problems with language comprehension and cultural backgrounds. They lacked certain guidelines which would help with solving any issues. This thesis identifies the challenges that researchers face and finds possible strategies, and improvements for translations. 10. Family businesses’ succession in posttransition countries : what can be learned from the action research?Mojca Duh, Andreja Primec, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Succession is a very complex process and a critical phase in the life cycle of a family business. Finding a successor in ownership and management is one of the most demanding succession challenges, especially since younger generations have little interest or intention in joining their parents’ businesses. The action research was conducted to expand our understanding of owners’ attitudes and behaviors toward succession and the factors influencing successors’ intention and decision to enter the family business. The research also addresses the applicability of informal and formal family governance mechanisms in family business succession in post-transition countries. The research findings show the importance of the family dimension and emotional aspects of succession in post-transition countries. The theoretical hypotheses developed to form the basis for future confirmatory research and have implications for the key stakeholders and support infrastructure institutions involved in family business succession in post-transition countries.
