Interoperability between architectural and structural bim software in the case of a mall project

Opis: This master thesis deals with the effect of interoperability between architectural and structural BIM software in the case of a Mall project. The research and most of the work was performed on a BIM model of the Mall project that was modeled using Tekla BIM software. Since there is still a lack of investigations addressing interoperability issues in the structural engineering domain, this thesis pretends to show the collaboration between architectural and structural BIM software, taking into account a real and complex project. A general overview and research regarding building information modeling (BIM) and interoperability issues were done in this project. Various case studies were conducted, where the entire BIM model and partial models of the Mall project were transferred from BIM to FEM software using different data exchange methods. Structural analysis and design in the case of the relevant partial models of the Mall project were performed with the help of Dlubal-Structural Engineering Software for Analysis and Design. Such analyses were made in the structural analysis program RFEM, to investigate if those partial models are imported correctly. The general conclusion based on the used case studies is that data exchange between BIM and FEM software can be useful, but the ease of use depends on both the data exchange method and the way how the relevant model has been created in Tekla BIM software. Referring to these case studies, the most successful data exchange was achieved by using the direct link between BIM and FEM software.

Development of new product/process development procedure for SMEs

Opis: The result of our research is a developed and implemented set of activities for new process or product development (NPD procedure) for SMEs environment in the plastic processing industry, which enables the production of products and services with a high value added. The developed NPD procedure consists of five consecutive and overlapping steps: attracting orders, designing a project, developing a product, developing a process and zero production series. Each distinct step is further divided into sub-activities supported by adequate methods and managed in an information system. Investigated and included were three different methodologies use for NPD procedure in the automotive industry such as Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Stage/Gate methodology. The results presented in the paper show that the developed NPD procedure significantly improved NPD in terms of cost management and time-effectiveness.

Developing soft skills for engineering

Opis: While advanced technologies are entering schools at all levels, we claim that other skills required to deal with them in the complex modern world should not be neglected in the education system. In this article, a promising approach to interdisciplinary postgraduate education is described. The idea of the »Team project« course is to give the students the opportunity to gain experience in an extensive project where various skills are needed, e.g. teamwork, coordinating work, project management, research, problem solving, public presentations, time management, etc. The course is obligatory and held in the first year of the master study program at the School of Engineering and Management of the University of Nova Gorica. The main advantage of the course is to give the students hands-on experience of work on a project that is very close to reality. Students are forced to gain experience in teamwork and to overcome the uncertainties and obstacles that arise in such projects. Since the launch of the course, several improvements have been made with the aim of improving the performance of the course. Nevertheless, the course remains a challenge for both students and teachers.

A review of critical success factors for offshore software development projects

Opis: Offshore project success is very much important to both customer and the vendor. Based on very less success rate of overall software projects globally, critical success factors (CSFs) for offshore software projects is gaining much importance. In the current study based on literature review, a total of 75 success factors for offshore software projects are identified. Further based on their appearance in literature 20 critical success factors from 10 CSF categories are identified. Finally top six most critical success factors for offshore software projects such as trust, efficient communication, cultural understanding, relationship between client and vendor, contract type and efficient knowledge transfer are identified. The CSFs categories are prioritized in the order of importance. The important CSF categories for offshore projects found are organizational factors (both client and vendor), project factors, cultural factors and environmental factors.

Vodenje projekta skozi ms project v v podjetju rls merilna tehnika d.o.o.

Opis: V diplomskem delu smo predstavili proces vodenja projektov v razvojno proizvodnem podjetju RLS merilna tehnika d.o.o., ki je v zadnjih štirih letih v namen vzpostavitve funkcionalnega in informacijsko podprtega procesa odprlo nov oddelek Projektne pisarne, uvedlo elektronsko vodenje projektov z uporabo programskega orodja Microsoft Project ter je bilo zaradi večletne rasti poslovanja in širitve podjetja v zadnjem obdobju v obsežni fazi reorganizacije. Poenoteno vodenje projektov in obdelava podatkov vezanih na ta podporni proces vplivata na več vidikov poslovanja in delo preostalih oddelkov v podjetju, zato je le-to ključnega pomena za podjetje, ki daje velik poudarek razvoju novih kataloških izdelkov, lastnih testnih in proizvodnih naprav ter izdelkov po meri kupca. Projektna pisarna zato nenehno stremi k izboljšavam trenutnega procesa in nadgradnji sistema, kar je opisano v sklepnem delu diplomske naloge in bi z uvedenimi dopolnitvami še dodatno izboljšalo projektno kulturo v podjetju.

Heritage trails through Dolenjska and Bela Krajina in Slovenia

Opis: One of the crucial methodologies for growing and developing a level of tourism which is sustainable and enhances the totality of local and regional environments is a multi-stakeholder approach to tourism development. In this paper, we present the case of the 'Heritage trails through Dolenjska and Bela krajina in SE Slovenia' in which sustainable rural development (we take this to include cultural & heritage, vinicultural & gastronomic, as well as ecological tourism) is one of the key elements of the integral mix of business economy, viz. development of the region in the SE of Slovenia. The integral approach showed from the very beginning of project activities, within the Novo Mesto chamber of commerce, its long-time implementation until the present, as one of the key products within the tourist destination of Dolenjska, Bela Krajina and Kočevsko-Ribniška. It takes an integrated approach in terms of start-up, implementation and development and is supported by and benefits from the notion of a core of multiple stakeholders.

Usage of agile SCRUM methodology on configuration management application

Opis: The purpose of the master thesis is to research and determine how to successfully manage a project using agile methodology Scrum. Scrum methodology will be used to improve the functionality of existing internally developed software solutions. Scrum, being an agile methodology, is an alternative approach to the traditional waterfall methodology, and is typically used in software development. Agile methodologies help teams respond to a project’s unpredictability by using incremental, iterative way of work known as sprints. The first part of the master’s thesis presents a problem, defines goals and methods used, and the necessary tools required to achieve the objectives. The following part of the thesis presents the foundations of agile methodologies and describes the used methodology – Scrum - in detail. In the practical part, the thesis presents the existing software solution and opportunities for its improvement. We use Scrum for upgrading existing application, including all the attributes of the mentioned methodology, from team design to artifacts and events. The thesis also presents a renewed application in detail. In conclusion, by using the SWOT analysis we observe suitability for use of the Scrum methodology in the case of renewal of application and propose further changes to improve the application.

Model for optimal project portfolio for the construction of railway infrastructure on corridors V and X

Opis: The construction of railway infrastructure should be dealt with as a national strategic developmental programme, which due to technical, geographical, logistical, and other requirements is carried out through a number of projects and represents a complex multiple project operation for investors, contractors, and other influential players. The national strategic developmental programme for the construction of the railway infrastructure is connected through programmes in neighbouring countries and EU member states to Trans-European Networks (TEN) that strategically regulate construction within the community. In the Republic of Slovenia, the construction of railway infrastructure within TEN programmes is carried out on the pan-European traffic corridors V and X within individual projects for the construction of sections and a number of supporting projects. Technical requirements, deadlines, and other TEN requirements as well as national strategic requirements and financial possibilities of the state represent basic criteria that should be taken into consideration in setting up a strategic project plan, with optimal project classification achieved through the implementation project portfolio. The current article utilised the method of multiple-criteria decision analysis to prepare the portfolio, taking into account macroeconomic and infrastructural criteria. Consequently, the results represent the basis for the preparation of an optimal financial plan with regard to financing possibilities of the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union. The article also summarised the research results regarding the formation of the project implementation process of the TEN-T network construction in the Republic of Slovenia.

Analiza orodij za izdelavo projektnega plana

Opis: V diplomski nalogi smo predstavili orodja za upravljanje s projektnim planom. Poudarili smo plačljivo različico ter jo primerjali z najpogosteje uporabljenimi prostodostopnimi orodji. V nalogi je podrobneje predstavljeno plačljivo orodje Microsoft Project 2016 in prostodostopno Bitrix24. V nalogi je predstavljen tudi projekt, katerega plan smo izdelali v obeh predstavljenih rešitvah. Na kratko so predstavljena tudi druga prostodostopna orodja.

Impacts of the implementation of a project management information system

Opis: Background: The problems of resources management (human, financial, time) in multi-project companies are inherently complex and need to be addressed systematically, in both small and large organizations. Furthermore, there is a need for transparent communication and collaboration within the organization as well as with partnering organizations. There are many methodologies and tools supporting project management, which are themselves complex and are therefore not widely adopted, especially among small companies. Objectives: The aim of this paper is to analyse impact of the implementation of a flexible cloud-based project management information system (PMIS) from the human resources, financial management, and collaboration points of view. Method: We have conducted a case study in a small Slovenian research and development company, that has implemented the 4PM PMIS. Results: The findings imply the importance of keeping the balance of the creative processes that are unstructured, rule free and even chaotic, with structured processes monitor and control. Conclusions: The results of the study suggest that the use of “4PM” in support of multi-project management improves human resources and financial management in a collaborative and transparent way when implemented in an open and highly motivated environment
