1. Art for well-being : insights into early childhood education in Slovenia and IcelandPetra Štirn Janota, Kristin Dyrfjord, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: In this article, we explore how arts education promotes well-being in preschool education by comparing the views of Slovenian and Icelandic educators and students. In Slovenia, a structured curriculum approach predominates, while in Iceland creativity, learning in nature and finding solutions in an open learning environment are emphasised. Both approaches promote emotional expression, ethical awareness, and sustainable education. We highlight the challenges in teacher training and emphasise the need for training and inclusion of pedagogical practises in the arts in relation to health and well-being, while also demonstrating the importance of the arts experience for the health and well-being of both educators and preschool students. 2. The picture book and its role in preschool mathematics educationSanja Maričić, Mirjana Stakić, 2023, original scientific article Abstract: The paper examines the role of the picture book as a learning resource in preschool mathematics education and illustrates the possibilities for its application. The paper aims to examine whether preschool teachers use picture books in preschool mathematics education, what areas of mathematics they most use these for, and whether they recognize methodological advantages to their application. Results show that half of preschool teachers use the picture book as a teaching resource in preschool mathematics education, that it is mostly used to develop the concept of natural numbers and spatial relations, as well as that teachers clearly perceive methodological advantages. 3. Subjectively perceived importance of education by university students at the beginning of their studiesRadmila Burkovičová, 2022, original scientific article Abstract: The article investigates students perception of the importance of education and its rationale at the beginning of their studies. Fifty-seven students from the bachelor’s programme Teacher Training for Kindergarten from 2018/2019 to 2021/2022 participated. The sampling was based on convenience. A qualitative approach was used through open verbal statements transcribed into a text. The individual importance of education to students at the beginning of the first semester and their personal justifications for the importance of education were identified, representing several categories. We found the following dimensions for the categories of the meaning of education (personal goal category) and personal definition of education (categories: association with context; from individual to society; on the background of historical development; personality development and evolution; essence; mode of acquisition; value; through the lens of the present; Dionysian conception; general overview; confused definitions). 5. Preschool teacher career and why individuals choose itMaja Hmelak, Jurka Lepičnik-Vodopivec, 2012, original scientific article Abstract: The first part of the article examines certain fundamental theoretical facts about preschool education courses and the preschool teacher profession, as well as current theoretical and empirical knowledge about the motives for choosing this career path. The central part of the article is devoted to the empirical study. A study was performed on a sample of 616 students and preschool teachers to determine their opinions about how suitable they think their choice of education and future profession was, and about the motivational factors that led the respondents to choose preschool education studies and the preschool teacher profession. The study also factored in respondents' backgrounds (students, teachers) and status (beginners, established, experienced). An analysis of differences between the respondents in regard to their background and status revealed a general agreement with the suitability of choosing their education/future profession, but it also showed that their choice was primarily guided by self-actualization and altruistic reasons. However, statistically significant differences were spotted in other reasons as well. Considering that inner motivational factors were the most common among all respondents, the authors deduce that the respondents represent a suitably chosen and educated population of current and future preschool teachers, which should ensure quality work with preschool children.
