Orwell Going Down and Out: Analysis of Autobiographical Elements in Down and Out in Paris and LondonSandra Feher, 2021, magistrsko delo
Opis: The master’s thesis evaluates changes made in the book Down and Out in Paris and London in comparison with the author’s personal experience, and researches the possible reasons for those alterations. It examines various schools of criticism and their stances about the importance of the author for the interpretation of the text and the question of authorial intent. Because the author’s involvement in the literary text is closely connected with the genre of the text, this thesis will also explore how different genres affect the reader’s interpretation. Although Orwell is renowned as a truth teller, we can find many differences between the book and his real-life experiences – they can be divided into two categories: those made by Orwell himself and those suggested by literary agents and later by his publisher, Victor Gollancz.
