Opis: The aim of this research was to apply three different types of zeolites and the combination thereof in the form of a very fine powder, together with different chemicals and additives on polyamide knitted fabric according to an industrially acceptable exhaustion procedure in order to study changes in the morphology, optical properties and wettability of surfaces. Zeolites were analysed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and gas physiosorption. Additionally, the morphology of zeolite-coated surfaces was examined closely using SEM, while changes in molecular-chemical level were examined by means of IR spectroscopy. Optical properties were studied using CIE colour measurement and diff use reflectance profi le determination, while the hydrophilic/hydrophobic character was examined using goniometry. The obtained results show the suitability of the employed exhaustion procedure, depending on the type of zeolite and the composition of the treatment bath. The results also provided evidence of the enhanced wettability of PA fabrics using 4A and 13X zeolites in combination with selected additives.

Opis: In recent years, aquaporin biomimetic membranes (ABMs) for water separation have gained considerable interest. Although the first ABMs are commercially available, there are still many challenges associated with further ABM development. Here, we discuss the interplay of the main components of ABMs: aquaporin proteins (AQPs), block copolymers for AQP reconstitution, and polymer-based supporting structures. First, we briefly cover challenges and review recent developments in understanding the interplay between AQP and block copolymers. Second, we review some experimental characterization methods for investigating AQP incorporation including freeze-fracture transmission electron microscopy, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, stopped-flow light scattering, and small-angle X-ray scattering. Third, we focus on recent efforts in embedding reconstituted AQPs in membrane designs that are based on conventional thin film interfacial polymerization techniques. Finally, we describe some new developments in interfacial polymerization using polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane cages for increasing the physical and chemical durability of thin film composite membranes.

Electrochemical impedance studies of corrosion protected surfaces covered by epoxy polyamide coating systemsSaša Skale

Opis: Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to study the corrosion behavior of different types of commercial quality epoxy polyamide dry coatingson mild steel, with thickness between 150 and 250 ▫$/mu$▫m, which were previously weather accelerated in a wet chamber. The following data were established on the basis of impedance curves and corresponding equivalent circuits: the coating capacity that relates to the coating dimension, the pore resistance that represents conductive paths through the pores, and Warburg coefficients, which are the measure of ion diffusion through the coating. EIS data were compared with a criterion in the European standard, and samples were classified on the basis of their quality, also receiving a final ranking by summing-up all the individual rankings. Suggestions have been made, namely that the use of anticorrosive active pigments is obsolete, when the thickness of the coatings exceeds 200 ▫$/mu$▫m.
