QoS-oriented design of embedded systems with specification PEARL
Roman Gumzej, Wolfgang A. Halang, 2007, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Only recently have methodical tools adequate to design real-time systems been formally introduced in design methodologies. Naturally, they were present fromthe beginning, but due to the large diversity of embedded systemsć areas of deployment, specially dedicated formalisms have been developed and used. High-level language programming and integration of modeling formalisms into design methods eased the development of more complex real-time applications. With the emerging object-oriented programming languages and design methods, their integration into larger information systems has become more transparent. It was the UML methodology, however, which eventually merged also the design methods and concepts of real-time systems into a consistent whole. It took a large consortium and a long process to persuade industry of the benefits the new integral methodology can offer. On the other hand, there are some trade-offs, and there are some features not completely covered, yet. Here, a different, more straightforward approach to program and design (embedded) real-time systems is presented. Since it emerged from the real-time community, it includes most features relevant there. Independent of the UML profile for schedulability, performance and time specification, a profile was devised for use in PEARL-oriented UML design. The strengths of the mentioned language and design methods for QoS-oriented design of (embedded) real-time systems are emphasised throughout this article.

A reconfiguration pattern for distributed embedded systems
Roman Gumzej, Matjaž Colnarič, Wolfgang A. Halang, 2007, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: A reconfiguration pattern for UML-based projects of embedded (real-time) systems is defined. It enables to set up hardware/software configurations, and to specify conditions and methods for dynamic reconfiguration. The reconfiguration pattern was inspired by the reconfiguration management solution of the Specification PEARL methodology, which is based on the standard for Multiprocessor PEARL whose original idea it was to extend the language to enable the programming of distributed real-time applications in PEARL. In Specification PEARL, the possibility for abstract descriptions of hardware and software architectures and for defining mappings from software to hardware components has been enhanced in correspondence with the standard. Here, a UML pattern for reconfiguration management in distributed embedded applications based on concepts from Specification PEARL is presented. Its behavioural, structural and functional aspects are outlined. It addresses stereotype entities from the Specification PEARL language, which were joined in a UML profile, and outlines the related reconfiguration management mechanisms, which were carried over to the mentioned UML pattern. The proposed reconfiguration pattern is to facilitate the development of distributed embedded application in UML with consistent and temporally predictable reconfiguration support. It should also support and enhance the applicationsć flexibility and portability.

A safety shell for UML-RT projects
Roman Gumzej, Wolfgang A. Halang, 2008, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: A safety shell pattern was defined based on a reconfiguration management pattern, and inspired by the architectural specifications in Specification PEARL. It is meant to be used for real-time applications to be developed with UML-RT as described. The implementation of the safety shell features as defined by in [8], namely its timing and state guards as well as I/O protection and exception handling mechanisms, is explained. The pattern is parameterised by defining the properties of its components as well as by defining the mapping between software and hardware architectures. Initial and alternative execution scenarios as well as the method for switching between them are defined. The goal pursued with the safety shell is to obtain clearly specified operation scenarios with well defined transitions between them. To achieve safe and timely operation, the pattern must provide safety shell mechanisms for an application designed, i.e., enable its predictable deterministic and temporally predictable operation now and in the future.

Business English as a lingua franca
Nataša Gajšt, 2014, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: In our era of globalisation, English is at the top of the languages used in international business. A vast majority of business communication in English is carried out by non-native speakers of English. In a cross-cultural exchange of information, the sender and the recipient come from different cultural backgrounds. The patterns of communication vary across the globe and non-native speakers tend to apply their native language patterns when communicating in English. This paper thus focuses on the concept of spoken communication and dimensions of culture and how they are reflected in communication patterns in different business situations. It also addresses the teaching of Business English as a lingua franca and the role of Business English teachers in helping learners develop their communicative and intercultural competence in order to communicate effectively in a multicultural work environment.

Some aspects of the systemic functional model in text analysis
Katja Plemenitaš, 2004, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The article presents some aspects of text explanation in the systemic functional model of language. In the systemic functional model text is conceived as a semantic unit created in the process of selection and realization of meaningful choices encoded in words and structures. This implies that in order to uncover what types of meanings are being encoded in the text one has to take inco account the lexico-grammatical patterns which realize it. The article treats some of the possibilities for the application of this model in a comparative text analysis involving texts in different languages. As an ilustration it presents a comparison of some aspects of the experimental function of two presidential speeches, one in English and one in Slovene. The comparison focuses on the distribution of different process types in both texts.

Smectic A herringbone patterns
Samo Kralj, Emmanuelle Lacaze, George Cordoyiannis, Zdravko Kutnjak, 2014, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: Two qualitatively different SmA structures exhibiting herringbone-type layer patterns, to which we refer as the Defectless Smectic Herringbone (DSH) and the Dislocation Decorated Smectic Herringbone (DDSH) pattern are studied by a Landau-de Gennes-Ginzburg mesoscopic approach. Liquid crystal structures are described in terms of a nematic director field and a smectic complex order parameter. It is demonstrated that, in the proximity of the N-SmA phase transition, a melting of smectic layers could be realised even for relatively weakly-tilted smectic layers in DSH patterns (i.e. θt ≈ 100) for type I Sm4 phase. The width of melted region could be relatively large with respect to bulk values of the smectic characteristic lengths. In addition, a critical value of θt is determined at which a DDSH pattern is expected to appear.

A question-based design pattern advisement approach
Luka Pavlič, Vili Podgorelec, Marjan Heričko, 2014, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Design patterns are a proven way to build flexible software architectures. But the selection of an appropriate design pattern is a difficult task in practice, particularly for less experienced developers. In this paper, a question based design pattern advisement approach will be proposed. This approach primarily assists developers in identifying and selecting the most suitable design pattern for a given problem. We will also propose certain extensions to the existing Object-Oriented Design Ontology (ODOL). In addition to the advisement procedure, a new design pattern advisement ontology will be defined. We have also developed a tool that supports the proposed ontology and question-based advisement (OQBA) approach. The conducted controlled experiment and two surveys have shown that the proposed approach is beneficial to all software developers, especially to those who have less experience with design patterns.

Discrepancies among Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed coverage of funding information in medical journal articles
Peter Kokol, Helena Blažun, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Objective: The overall aim of the present study was to compare the coverage of existing research funding information for articles indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed databases. Methods: The numbers of articles with funding information published in 2015 were identified in the three selected databases and compared using bibliometric analysis of a sample of twenty-eight prestigious medical journals. Results: Frequency analysis of the number of articles with funding information showed statistically significant differences between Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed databases. The largest proportion of articles with funding information was found in Web of Science (29.0%), followed by PubMed (14.6%) and Scopus (7.7%). Conclusion: The results show that coverage of funding information differs significantly among Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed databases in a sample of the same medical journals. Moreover, we found that, currently, funding data in PubMed is more difficult to obtain and analyze compared with that in the other two databases.
