Socio-economic and geographical factors of development

Abstract: The paper analyzes the socio-economic and geographic factors for Berane Andrijevice and Plava. The above urban settlements are located in the northeastern part of Montenegro. Isolated traffic and geographical position adversely affects the economic and social development of urban settlements. For the development of cities of greater importance are the geo-morphological and hydrological characteristics of the terrain, the climate and geology, which limits greatly compensates for modern construction techniques. Berane population increased in the period 1948-2003 to 26.81%, while in Andrijevica decreased by 42.48% and 12.43% of Plav. These data suggest to us most vividly, what are the demographic changes occurring in the region. Age groups, due to migration and decreasing birth rate changes and gets unfavorable features - reducing the proportion of younger and older increases the proportion of the population. In both cases, the disturbed age structure has a reverse effect on the movement of the population (the size of reproductive contingent), but also to all other structures of the population (the size of contingent employment, population, compulsory school contingent, contingent dependent population ratio).The main characteristic of modern urban development of cities provide processes of industrialization and urbanization. However, the economic crisis in Montenegro at the beginning of the nineties due to isolation, the economic and social strategy of circling and lack of long term economic development, stopped the social, economic, technical and technological development of urban settlement Berane, Andrijevica and Plav.

Foreign direct investment location choice factors

Abstract: Due to the liberalization and transformation of emerging markets economies, the attractiveness of these countries for foreign direct investors has been rising in the last decades. This paper explores foreign direct investment (FDI) location choice factors of German and Austrian companies in Brazilian regions. We perform a quantitative analysis, based on the Multinomial Nested Logit Model and supplement its findings by the qualitative analysis, based on the semi-structured experts´ interview. The analyses show that investor-nation specific agglomeration, industry specialization, workforce qualification and physical infrastructure were important FDI location choice factors for German and Austrian companies in Brazil. Suggestions for future research of the FDI location choice factors are discussed.

Monte Carlo simulation-based approach to optimal bus stops allocation in the Municipality of Laško

Abstract: The paper addresses the problem of optimal bus stop allocation. The aim is to achieve reduction of costs on account of appropriate re-design of the process of obligatory transportation of children from their homes to the corresponding schools in the Laško municipality. The proposed algorithm relies on optimization based on the Monte Carlo simulation procedure. The number of calculated bus stops is required to be minimal possible, which can still assure maximal service area within the prescribed radius, while keeping the minimal walking distances pupils have to go across from their homes to the nearest bus stop and vice versa. The main issues of the proposed algorithm are emphasised and the working mechanism is explained. The presentation of calculated results is given and comparison with some other existing algorithms is provided. The positions of the calculated bus stops are going to be used for the purpose of physical bus stops implementation in order to decrease the current transportation costs.

Simultaneous embeddings of graphs as median and antimedian subgraphs

Abstract: Razdalja ▫$D_G(v)$▫ vozlišča ▫$v$▫ v grafu ▫$G$▫ je vsota razdalj med ▫$v$▫ in vsemi drugimi vozlišči grafa ▫$G$▫. Množica vozlišč grafa ▫$G$▫ z maksimalno (minimalno) razdaljo je antimedianska (medianska) množica grafa ▫$G$▫. Dokazano je, da za poljubna grafa ▫$G$▫ in ▫$J$▫ ter za poljubno naravno število ▫$r ge 2$▫ obstaja povezani graf ▫$H$▫, tako da je ▫$G$▫ antimedianski in ▫$J$▫ medianski podgraf grafa ▫$H$▫ ter da pri tem velja ▫$d_H(G,J) = r$▫. V primeru, ko sta oba ▫$G$▫ in ▫$J$▫ povezana, lahko dodatno naredimo, da sta ▫$G$▫ in ▫$J$▫ konveksna podgrafa v ▫$H$▫.

The obnoxious center problem on weighted cactus graphs

Abstract: Problem nezaželenih centrov v grafu predstavlja določitev takšne lokacije na povezavah grafa, da je njena minimalna razdalja do poljubne točke grafa kolikor se da velika. Uteži na točkah grafa lahko predstavljajo njihovo občutljivost, ki jo je moč oceniti z eno izmed konstantno mnogo vrednosti. Kadar je vsaki točki grafa prirejena ena izmed ▫$c$▫ različnih vrednosti (uteži) glede na njeno občutljivost, rešujemo tako imenovan problem nezaželenih centrov na grafu z ovrednotenimi točkami. V tem članku bomo predstavili algoritem, ki določi nezaželeni center na kaktusu z ovrednotenimi točkami v linearnem času ▫$O(cn)$▫, kjer je ▫$n$▫ število točk in ▫$c$▫ število uteži.

Reconstruction of delivery positions in the city of Celje, Slovenia

Abstract: The paper addresses the problem of the reconstruction and allocation of delivery positions in the urban area. The aim is to achieve the optimal reorganization of urban freight transport in old town core in the municipality of Celje. Optimal allocation relies on optimization based on the Monte Carlo simulation and represents a first stage of a two-stage optimization approach to re-design the existing urban freight transport. The number of optimal delivery positions is required to be as minimal as possible, which can still assure a maximal service area within the prescribed radius, while keeping the minimal walking distances of delivery personnel between the nearest delivery position and the customerʼs physical location. The main issues of the used heuristic allocation algorithm and the presentation of calculated results are provided. In the near future, the calculated delivery positions are going to be used for the purpose of physical implementation in order to improve the existing delivery transport.

Simulation model of multi-shuttle automated storage and retrieval systems

Abstract: Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) brought to industry the advantages of faster storages and retrieval of products, efficient utilizationof storage space, high reliability and better control inventory, improved safety and decrease in damages of products. Therefore AS/RS which areused in manufacturing, warehousing and distribution centers have to be designed to provide quick response for storages and retrievals of products in order to keep the system operating efficiently. Heuristics travel time models for AS/RS with equal-sized cells in height and randomized storage under single- and multi-shuttle system are presented in this paper. The main contribution of proposed model is the implementation of the "Strategy x" and determination of relationship between average travel times and throughput capacity for different types of high storage racks and velocity profiles of storage retrieval machine.

Investigation of crack propagation scatter in a gear tooth's root

Abstract: This paper describes the problem of determining crack initiation location and its influence on crack propagation in a gear tooth's root. Three different load positions on the gear tooth's flank were considered for this investigation of crack initiation and propagation. A special test device was used for the single tooth test. It can be concluded from the measurements thata crack can be initiated at very different locations in a tooth's root and then propagate along its own paths. A numerical investigation into a crack initiation's position and its influences on its propagation were carried out within the framework of linear fracture mechanics. The influence of a tooth's load position, the geometry of the tooth's root, and the influence of nonparallel load distribution on the tooth's flank were considered when investigating the crack initiation's position. Results show that linear fracture mechanics can be used for determining crack propagation, if better initial conditions for crack initiation are considered.
