Changing lifestyles through generations : the case of activesports tourists in mountains
Tomi Špindler, Mitja Gorenak, Miha Lesjak, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Mountains are visited by different generations of tourists; therefore, generational studies are important for understanding psychologicaldifferences and behaviours of mountain tourists. This study aimedto determine if lifestyles of mountain tourists differ based ongeneration, gender, and membership in a mountaineeringorganization. A quantitative approach was used with a conveniencesample of 407 respondents in Slovenia. The research was carried outon sports tourists who spend the night outside their place ofresidence and visit a 1st category hut in the Slovenian mountains, including Baby Boomers, Generations X, Y and Z. Results show amoderate correlation between generation and lifestyle. There areno statistically significant gender-based lifestyle differences butthere are significant differences between members and non-members of mountaineering associations. The identified lifestylefactors align with previous studies and highlight differencesbetween generations. Younger generations exhibit more optimisticand thoughtful lifestyles. Also, mountaineering associations play arole in promoting active lifestyles among members. Lifestyle is acrucial aspect of tourism behaviour, influenced by generationaldifferences. Understanding these differences is essential fordeveloping targeted tourism strategies. Lifestyle can also be viewedfrom the perspective of sustainable development, as the concept oflifestyle is often seen as something that needs to be changed toachieve sustainable development. Modern tourists embrace theirhealthy lifestyle through hiking in the mountains, as the number ofhikers, mountaineers, and climbers continues to rise yearly. Therefore, future research could explore lifestyle differences in othercountries and seasons, offering insights into sustainable mountaintourism development.

Typology of health-related behavior : hierarchical cluster analysis among university students
Joca Zurc, Matej Majerič, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Physical and mental health show strong associations with health-related behavior. Uni versity students are one of the at-risk groups who are in a vulnerable transition phase from adolescence to adulthood, significantly affecting their health-related lifestyle. This study aims to identify different groups of university students with homogeneous health related behavior, considering their dietary habits, physical activity, alcohol and tobacco consumption, mental well-being and lifestyle change motives. For data collection, an anonymous, closed-ended paper-and-pencil questionnaire was administered to a sample of 171 university students. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, a t-test for independent samples, a chi-square test, Spearman correlation and hierarchical cluster analyses (Ward’s method, Dendrogram). On average, students reported good health (M=4.84), including daily physical activity (M = 31.35 min) and regular consumption of fruits (M = 4.02) and vegetables (M = 4.19). The hierarchical cluster analysis revealed two distinct patterns among the students: “Caring for a healthy lifestyle” (N = 69) and “Physically inactive with poor mental well-being” (N = 62). Better health-related behavior was found among male students enrolled in higher study years (p ≤ 0.01). These findings provide newinsights into the different patterns of health-related behavior among university students that require targeted health promotion actions. Universities should develop and implement courses in healthy lifestyles and sustain them in the curricula.

Validation of a Slovenian version of the healthy lifestyle and personal control questionnaire (HLPCQ) for use with patients in family medicine
Adrijana Svenšek, Gregor Štiglic, Mateja Lorber, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background Chronic non-communicable diseases are the world’s leading cause of death and disability. The emerging field of lifestyle medicine requires equipping healthcare professionals with instruments, knowledge, skills and competencies. Measuring an individual’s lifestyle with a valid and reliable instrument is the first step in promoting it. The aim of the study was to validate the Slovenian adaptation of the Healthy Lifestyle and Personal Control Questionnaire (HLPCQ). Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 666 questionnaire participants, and they were adult participants (aged 18 and above) from family medicine practices with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) risk factors (e.g., hypertension, high cholesterol) but without a diagnosis of acute CVDs. The questionnaire included demographic data and anthropological measures and a translated English HLPCQ questionnaire. The instrument was translated using the forward-backwards translation method. The study was conducted in accordance with the principles of the World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki. In addition to assessing the construct validity of the questionnaire, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used to determine content and face validity, and internal consistency reliability. Results The mean age of male participants was 41.34 (± 13.220) years, the mean age of female participants was 40.31 (± 11.905) years. The Cronbach’s alpha was 0.852, and all questionnaire subscales had positive correlations. Sampling adequacy was confirmed by the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) index (0.851), and Bartlett’s test of sphericity was significant (χ² = 4647.694, p < 0.001), indicating suitability for Principal Component Analysis (PCA). PCA revealed a fivefactor solution, accounting for 50.67% of the total variance. Conclusions The most influential factors for a healthy lifestyle were daily routine, healthy dietary choices, avoidance of harmful dietary habits, organized physical activity, and social and mental balance. The Slovenian version had high factor validity and reliability. It can be used in Slovenian Community Health Centre to assess an individual’s control over various lifestyle dimensions. The instrument also holds potential for use in public health initiatives, supporting early identification of lifestyle-related risk factors and promoting preventive care strategies in the primary care setting.

Sustainable synergy: unveiling the symbiotic relationship between personal lifestyles and corporate sustainable business practices
Matevž Obrecht, Tina Cvahte Ojsteršek, Lazar Pavić, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study, conducted among 596 employees across various industries, investigates the interplay between personal sustainable lifestyle scores and corporate sustainable business practices, including energy consumption and renewable energy use. The research reveals a strong correlation between individuals’ personal sustainable lifestyles and their organisations’ sustainable business practices. Notably, employees consistently practising personal sustainable behaviours, including energy efficiency, tend to work in companies with robust sustainability initiatives and low-carbon strategies. Women, in particular, displayed higher engagement in sustainable behaviours. Age-related trends suggest younger employees prioritise corporate sustainability policies more than older counterparts, who focus more on personal sustainable behaviour. Among all studied sectors the production sector stands out for its high sustainable lifestyle and sustainable business practices, reflecting the impact of industry-specific sustainability trends like lean and green operations. On the one hand, sustainable lifestyle involves making choices and taking actions that enable rational consumption of goods and products, protecting natural resources, using renewable energy sources, and utilising low-emission transport means. These findings underscore the critical link between personal sustainability habits and organisational sustainability business practices, highlighting a significant avenue for promoting sustainability and reduced energy consumption in the workplace and at home

Effects of cardiac rehabilitation and diet counselling on adherence to the mediterranean lifestyle in patients after myocardial infarction
Marko Novaković, Uroš Rajkovič, Daniel Košuta, Jure Tršan, Zlatko Fras, Borut Jug, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Adherence to the Mediterranean lifestyle—as captured by the Medlife Index Questionnaire (i.e., encompassing a Mediterranean diet as well as other aspects of healthy living, such as food preparation, physical activity, and socializing)—has been associated with reduced cardiovascular events in healthy individuals. In the present study, we sought to determine the adherence to, and the effect of comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation on, Mediterranean lifestyle adherence in patients after myocardial infarction. We included 121 patients (mean age, 55 years; women, 37%) undergoing comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation—i.e., exercise training 3 times per week for 12 weeks plus dedicated workshops promoting the Mediterranean lifestyle. Before and after cardiac rehabilitation, patients completed the Medlife Index Questionnaire. High baseline adherence was associated with favourable glucose (5.39 vs. 6.1 mmol/L; p < 0.001), triglycerides (1.1 vs. 1.5 mmol/L; p = 0.002), and HDL cholesterol levels (1.32 vs. 1.12 mmol/L; p = 0.032). More importantly, the Medlife Score significantly improved following comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation in patients with low baseline adherence (from 13.8 to 16.7 points; p < 0.001), but not in patients with high baseline adherence (from 19.4 to 18.8 points; p = 0.205). Our findings suggested that Mediterranean lifestyle promotion during cardiac rehabilitation improved adherence to the Mediterranean lifestyle, especially in low-adherence patients.

Sarcopenia, obesity, and their association with selected behavioral factors in active older adults
Kaja Teraž, Miloš Kalc, Manca Peskar, Saša Pišot, Boštjan Šimunič, Rado Pišot, Primož Pori, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Introduction: The number of obese people in the world is increasing, as is the number of sarcopenic people among the older adults. Although both states are concerning, they can be positively influenced by selected behavioral factors such as adequate nutrition and physical activity. We were interested in the prevalence of sarcopenic obesity in active older people and the influence of behavioral factors on this phenomenon. Methods: The study included 38 older adults (21 women) with a mean age of 75.3 ± 5.0 years. Sarcopenic parameters were determined with different tests: Handgrip Test, Chair Stand Test, Gait Speed, Timed Up and Go Test, and Short Physical Performance Battery. Body composition was measured by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. Physical activity level was measured using accelerometers, and nutritional status was assessed using the Mini-Nutritional Assessment and MEDLIFE Index questionnaire. Results: Of all included active participants (the average number of steps per day was 8,916 ± 3,543), 47.4% of them were obese. Of all included women, 52.4% were obese. Sarcopenic obesity was found in three (7.9%) participants. Nutritional status correlated with strength of lower extremities and physical performance tests (gait speed, Timed Up and Go Test and Short Physical performance battery). Higher number of steps per day positively correlates with physical performance. Discussion: Interestingly, we did not find any correlation between the main obesity parameter such as percent body fat or body mass index (and thus sarcopenic obesity) and any of the selected behavioral factors (physical activity, sedentary behavior, or dietary habits). In conclusion, reaching the recommended levels of physical activity in older adults may not be sufficient to prevent the occurrence of obesity and sarcopenic obesity.

English teaching update available: a study on online EFL educators : magistrsko delo
Andreja Benković, 2021, magistrsko delo

Opis: The master’s thesis explores the north-Croatian teachers’ readiness for teaching online. With technology slowly, but steadily, taking over everyday actions, it was only a matter of time when it would take over education. With March 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, technology was the safest way of conducting lessons and was instantaneously implemented into education. This master’s thesis aims to determine how English teachers in the three northernmost Croatian counties managed the new challenge. Specifically, it tests factors that influenced their e-readiness through 7 hypotheses. The research is based on questionnaire results – the questionnaire was sent to 86 primary schools, 30 secondary schools and 11 private language schools in Međimurje county, Varaždin county and Koprivnica-Križevci county via email with a request to forward it to their English teachers. Analysing responses with quantitative research methods, the study showed that factors such as age, gender and professional development influence teachers’ e-readiness, while there were no differences among the three counties. Furthermore, the results revealed that the teachers generally feel ready for conducting online lessons, although Gay’s questionnaire on Carribean teachers’ online teaching readiness proved otherwise. Interestingly, some of the teachers did have online teaching experience prior to the pandemic, which along with organized professional development offered to them, helped them feel ready to teach online. Ultimately, teachers are better prepared to teach online than they were prior to the pandemic; however, there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Responsibilities of pregnant women for on going pregnancy : medical aspects
Ratko Matijević, Katja Erjavec, 2016, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: There are numerous factors known to affect the course of pregnancy and adversely impact perinatal mortality and morbidity. Some of them are avoidable and some are not. Avoidable factors can be either under responsibility of medical staff, health care systems and communities; or under responsibility of pregnant women. By modifying and changing their lifestyle, pregnant women can influence some avoidable factors and improve their pregnancy outcome. However, by ignoring them, they can cause potential damage to themselves and to their unborn child. There is no well defined responsibility for women concerning ways they influence their pregnancy outcome; they have a full right to make decisions about themselves and their unborn children, whether right or wrong. Good communication, education and understanding are essential when dealing with these issues.

Mobility and lifestyle of small town inhabitans
Vladimir Drozg, 2011, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: The paper deals with the question how does the place of residence influence mobility and how is mobility part of daily activities of the population in small and big towns of Slovenia. For better explanation of the question four types of lifestyle has been defined: from very mobile with a wide home-range to less mobile with the small home-range. It can be seen that there is no big difference in mobility of inhabitants of small and big towns.
