Does teachers’ interest affect the frequency of teaching and learning outside the classroom in early social studies?
Polona Jančič Hegediš, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The article presents the findings of a study aimed at determining whether teachers’ personal interests and other factors influence the implementation of teaching and learning outside the classroom in early social studies within primary education. A convergent mixed-method research design was employed. The results indicate that, in practice, teaching and learning outside the classroom in early social studies is implemented less frequently than would be expected based on the didactic guidelines for early social studies instruction. Most teachers conduct such lessons only once a month or less. Teachers’ personal interests emerged as a significant factor influencing the frequency of teaching and learning outside the classroom.

Internationalization at home among tourism students from Portugal and Slovenia : coil based on qualitative methods
Ana Isabel Rodrigues, Marta Amaral, Nadja Mlakar, Pedro Cravo, João Rodrigues, Barbara Pavlakovič Farrell, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Traditional mobility programmesseem to be insufficient to fulfil the desired internationalization of higher education programmes. For this reason, other forms of internationalization need to be explored and addressed, such as ‘internationalization at home’ (IaH), a concept that has attracted the attention of a significant number of researchers over the years. Considering this, the aim of this paper is to present an example of such practices by focusing on the implementation of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) in the context of Tourism degree programmes offered by two institutions: the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, Portugal, and the University of Maribor, Slovenia. Furthermore, the paper intends to highlight the role played by qualitative methods in the design of this COIL programme, titled: “Integral Rural Tourism experiences: lessons from the Alqueva Lake, Portugal, and the Dolenjska region, Slovenia”. To achieve these goals, the paper focuses on: (i) the definition of internationalization at home and COIL, (ii) the topic and structure of this COIL programme, (iii) qualitative methods used in activity design, and on (iv) the evaluation of this initiative. This COIL proved to be a positive experience, as it helped to consolidate an international partnership and to increase the number of students involved in internationalization activities in both Tourism degrees involved. Furthermore, it encouraged students to develop a wide range of skills, such as digital, language and intercultural skills, which are of crucial importance, particularly in the case of Tourism degree programmes. Moreover, qualitative methods were found to be a suitable approach for the design of the tasks proposed. Finally, the limitations identified, related mostly to language difficulties and to the discrepancy in the perception of the proposed activities by students from the two institutions, hinted at the challengingnature of COIL to all involved –both students and teachers.

Teacher opinion about using problem-based learning in technology and engineering education
Lara Voler, Andrej Flogie, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: A school for the 21st century requires innovative approaches to learning and teaching. The presented research investigates the current state of innovative teaching methods, particularly problem-based learning (PBL), among teachers of the subject Technology and Engineering (TE) in Slovenian lower secondary schools. The main aim of the research was to determine the attitude towards such innovative teaching approaches, how often innovative teaching methods are used, how teachers perceive their importance, and finally, according to the teachers, how they are qualified for this. In the research, an appropriate questionnaire for teachers is developed. Qualitative and quantitative research was conducted using an online survey and statistical data processing. The online survey results showed that teachers positively assess the importance of using PBL, which is perceived as a more challenging method than traditional teaching methods. Despite numerous challenges, teachers express high motivation to improve their teaching practices. Based on the data obtained, it is found that teachers' knowledge is assessed less positively than their competence assessment, which indicates the need for more accurate methods of evaluating knowledge and emphasizes the importance of continuous professional development. The research findings could be important for improving teaching practices and promoting innovations in the educational process. High motivation and readiness of teachers to accept innovative pedagogical approaches can contribute to a better learning environment and the development of a more competent teacher in the future.

Meta analysis of business valuation solutions –are AI based methods better?
Aljaž Herman, Damijan Mumel, Timotej Jagrič, 2024, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Purpose of the article–this article addresses the challenge of accurately assessing business value in today's dynamic environment, exploring the limitations of traditional valuation methods and the potential of modern, technology-driven approaches.Research methodology–the study uses qualitative research methods, including content analysis, deductive reasoning, and comparative analysis, to review various business valuation techniques.Findings –the research finds that traditional methods like Discounted Cash Flow and Relative Valuation are outdated, failing to capture all value factors. Modern approaches, such as simulation-based valuation, machine learning, and neural networks, combine traditional methods with advanced techniques. These methodologies utilize vast datasets and sophisticated algorithms, enhancing predictive accuracy and understanding of market dynamics. Neural networks excel in analysing complex patterns and adapting to market shifts. However, no single method can capture all nuances, necessitating diverse approaches and acknowledging the subjective nature of valuations

Organization in finance prepared by stohastic differential equations with additive and nonlinear models and continuous optimization
Pakize Taylan, Gerhard-Wilhelm Weber, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: A central element in organization of financal means by a person, a company or societal group consists in the constitution, analysis and optimization of portfolios. This requests the time-depending modeling of processes. Likewise many processes in nature, technology and economy, financial processes suffer from stochastic fluctuations. Therefore, we consider stochastic differential equations (Kloeden, Platen and Schurz, 1994) since in reality, especially, in the financial sector, many processes are affected with noise. As a drawback, these equations are hard to represent by a computer and hard to resolve. In our paper, we express them in simplified manner of approximation by both a discretization and additive models based on splines. Our parameter estimation refers to the linearly involved spline coefficients as prepared in (Taylan and Weber, 2007) and the partially nonlinearly involved probabilistic parameters. We construct a penalized residual sum of square for this model and face occuring nonlinearities by Gauss-Newton's and Levenberg-Marquardt's method on determining the iteration step. We also investigate when the related minimization program can be written as a Tikhonov regularization problem (sometimes called ridge regression), and we treat it using continuous optimization techniques. In particular, we prepare access to the elegant framework of conic quadratic programming. These convex optimation problems are very well-structured, herewith resembling linear programs and, hence, permitting the use of interior point methods (Nesterov and Nemirovskii, 1993).
