1. Foreign language teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic : differences in students' attitudes towards the online LSP course. The case of the Faculty of Criminal Justice and SecurityEva Podovšovnik, Tilen Smajla, 2022, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: This paper presents the results of an analysis of the attitudes of students of the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security at the University of Maribor (FVV UM) towards the use of distance learning tools in their language for specific purposes (LSP) course. Our aim was to investigate the students' experience with LSP distance learning tools by focusing on the impact of different language teaching methods on the respondents' attitudes towards LSP distance learning tools, on the students' and professors' perceptions regarding the use of digital tools for online learning and the professors' ability to adapt their teaching methods to online learning. The results were as follows: there were no major differences in attitudes regarding the students' gender, the students have proven to have sufficient knowledge of the use of digital tools, the professors have proven to have sufficient knowledge of the use of digital tools and are able to adapt them accordingly, although the perceptions of students regarding the adaptations made by the professors differed significantly from those of the professors. Consequently, a more informed choice of teaching methods and approaches should be made that would ensure better learning outcomes also in the case of online teaching. 2. Teaching Methods for Economics and Business Sciences : Proceedings of the 3rd International Scientific Conference2020 Opis: The author of the first paper explores how students perceive various types of active learning techniques. The second paper identifies the teaching methods that are accepted by Generation Y students. The author of the third paper addresses the characteristics of contemporary students and their implications for teaching strategies. The fourth paper explores the effects of interdisciplinary problem-based learning on the development of students' knowledge, skills, and competences. Gamification as a teaching strategy is discussed in the fifth paper. The sixth paper addresses the challenge of merging disciplines of entrepreneurship and finance in one study program. The approaches to increasing students’ focus in learning finance-related subjects are discussed in the seventh paper. In the eighth paper authors expose the value of practical higher education as a response to the perceived phenomena of financial illiteracy and financial exclusion. The role of research results transfer into university teaching of transport economics discusses the author of the ninth paper. The authors of tenth paper explore the relevance of mastering Spanish for students of economics and business disciplines. The last paper discusses the authors' experiences with e-learning in higher education from the perspective of its extent and importance. 3. Elementary school teachers’ attitudes towards the importance and use of teaching methods in visual arts educationZlata Tomljenović, 2018, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The quality of the teaching process in visual arts largely depends on a creative and effective combination of both general and subject-specific (visual arts) teaching methods. The aim of this study was to determine in- service teachers' perceptions of the features, specifics, importance and objectives of teaching methods in visual arts education, as well as their perception of the importance of visual arts as a school subject. The research was conducted on a sample of 373 Croatian elementary school teachers. A correlation was determined between the following variables: “teachers' work experience”, “teachers' perception of the importance of visual arts education” and the variable: “use of teaching methods in visual arts classes”. Findings have implications for modernizing and improving school practice; they also suggest further research in this area. 4. Organization in finance prepared by stohastic differential equations with additive and nonlinear models and continuous optimizationPakize Taylan, Gerhard-Wilhelm Weber, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: A central element in organization of financal means by a person, a company or societal group consists in the constitution, analysis and optimization of portfolios. This requests the time-depending modeling of processes. Likewise many processes in nature, technology and economy, financial processes suffer from stochastic fluctuations. Therefore, we consider stochastic differential equations (Kloeden, Platen and Schurz, 1994) since in reality, especially, in the financial sector, many processes are affected with noise. As a drawback, these equations are hard to represent by a computer and hard to resolve. In our paper, we express them in simplified manner of approximation by both a discretization and additive models based on splines. Our parameter estimation refers to the linearly involved spline coefficients as prepared in (Taylan and Weber, 2007) and the partially nonlinearly involved probabilistic parameters. We construct a penalized residual sum of square for this model and face occuring nonlinearities by Gauss-Newton's and Levenberg-Marquardt's method on determining the iteration step. We also investigate when the related minimization program can be written as a Tikhonov regularization problem (sometimes called ridge regression), and we treat it using continuous optimization techniques. In particular, we prepare access to the elegant framework of conic quadratic programming. These convex optimation problems are very well-structured, herewith resembling linear programs and, hence, permitting the use of interior point methods (Nesterov and Nemirovskii, 1993). 6. INDIVIDUALIZED LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE: METHODS AND PROBLEMS RELATED TO SUCH LEARNINGDoroteja Hadner, 2016, diplomsko delo Opis: The thesis presents a topic that is nowadays very current in the field of education, even though it takes places outside of school, and that is individualized learning a foreign language. More and more children need additional help with acquisition and understanding of a foreign language and for this reason, the purpose of this thesis was to present individualized learning, to explore different approaches and methods of language teaching, which have evolved over the years and have been the subject of research and opinions of various authors. For learners, certain elements presented a big obstacle in learning a foreign language, which is why the thesis also presents different techniques of learning vocabulary and grammar according to various authors, which are also compared with our personal experiences, gained from individualized learning. The empirical part was based on a research, where we compared English examination tests of two learners, who attended individualized learning through all four years of secondary school. In each year, we made an analysis of both tests individually, compared learners’ mistakes and progress, and gave solutions to improve learners’ knowledge and understanding of a foreign language. Furthermore, we compared our personal experiences based on individualized learning with experiences and suggestions of other authors in connection with the use of different methods and approaches, and with learning vocabulary and grammar. Through theory and research, where the descriptive and comparative research method was used, we discovered that individualized learning was and will remain a very useful and effective tool in learning a foreign language, which gave learners excellent results at school, enriched their experience with the foreign language and most importantly, it raised their self-confidence in using a foreign language. 8. Exploring non-traditional learning methods in virtual and real-world environmentsRebeka Kovačič Lukman, Majda Krajnc, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This paper identifies the commonalities and differences within non-traditional learning methods regarding virtual and real-world environments. The non-traditional learning methods in real-world have been introduced within the following courses: Process Balances, Process Calculation, and Process Synthesis, and within the virtual environment through the European funded Lifelong Learning Programme project at the University of Maribor. The results, based on qualitative research in both environments show the appropriateness of non-traditional learning methods in comparison with traditional ones, although collaborative learning in both environments causes several frustration based on conflicts (personal or disagreements during the learning phase), influencing the efficiency of the learning process. This presents opportunities for improving and overcome emerging barriers by fostering motivation and interactivity.
