Opis: This diploma paper, entitled Auto-correction in Simultaneous Interpreting, consists of two main parts; the theoretical and the empirical part. The theoretical part introduces the given problem, and focuses on the first language acquisition, as well as on the psychological processes that occur in the human mind when language is created, and how it deals with simultaneous perception and production. This is then followed by the explanation of the second language acquisition. We further focus on the theoretical explanation of interpreting, with special emphasis on simultaneous interpreting, where we explain the specifics and the main problems of simultaneous interpreting. This is followed by the theoretical definition and the distinction between mistakes and errors as S. P. Corder sees it.
The second part focuses on the empirical research which was conducted in order to determine which types of errors occur with the students of simultaneous interpreting. These errors were analysed with the help of sound recordings, and are further outpointed at different levels, such as grammar, syntax, phonetics and lexis. We also try to distinguish between errors and mistakes. The data collected are presented and discussed at the end of the diploma paper.
The diploma paper was written in order to discover and describe different types of errors that the second language learners make, which strategies they use in correcting themselves, and how successful they are in doing it.

The concept of team-work in the early childhood : the correlation between motor and foreign language learning in the early childhoodPolona Oblak

Opis: Collaborative teaching is used in many kindergartens, schools, colleges and universities around the world in order to foster learnersć enthusiasm, social skills and to promote interdisciplinary learning. In Slovenia the instruction to use this new method started in kindergartens and primary schools and two years ago in the secondary grammar schools around Slovenia. Unfortunately, team-teaching can sometimes be enforced and imposed onto professors with no firm aim or goal previously set. Such team - work can neither satisfy learners' needs, nor can it offer a stimulating environment for the professors involved in this fairly new method. Team-teaching method was used in a pilot project with very young learners of English called "Sports and English". It is believed that more professors working together can elaborate more dynamic, flexible, creative, interdisciplinary and methodologically demanding projects. Apparently, learning different skills by using various approaches in the early years helps with whole child development, because learning affects different fields of psychophysical development in similar ways. The key to this learning is the engagement of unconscious psychological processes, such as recognition, perception, etc. There are similar processes going on different learning activities, such as solving in problems through motor activities and foreign language learning. This research space focuses on the correlation between motor efficiency and the level of foreign language acquisition. The examples of good practice in the pilot project 'Sports and English' are presented in terms of team-teaching of two professors, and consequently cross-curricular disciplines and assessment. Not only does team teaching have a great impact on developing learners' multiple intelligences and learning styles, it also develops social skills and the perception of individuals. Finally, correlation of the two disciplines with two professors contributes tremendously to whole child development.

Suggestopedia - a theoretical approach to understanding its principles and reasons for its use in practiceAndrej Karner

Opis: Suggestopedia is a teaching method, originally developed by psychiatrist Dr. Georgi Lozanov, the foundations of which are built upon the knowledge of psychology, neurology and linguistics.
By combining the knowledge of suggestology, medical facts and well-established psychological effects, Lozanov attempted to reconcile various aspects of this knowledge by their systematic and strategic integration. This has been achieved by using suggestion as a common denominator, and creating the carefully coordinated “set-up” (preparation of the classroom and the students) which would then make tapping into the “hidden reserves” of our brain possible.
Lozanov argues that these reserve capacities, although present, are normally more or less inhibited by parasitic conscious and subconscious thought processes, which he calls barriers, and that it is critical to discard or override, i.e. de-suggest them, and then suggest new standards prior to any language teaching. Hence, this involves the process of suggesting as well as the process of de-suggesting, i.e. erasing negative ideas by setting and anchoring positive ones.
In every-day life, language (mother tongue or foreign language) is by far more dependent on subconscious processes (automaticity) than on conscious ones. In fact, it is believed that about 95% of the language acquisition happens by employing these subconscious mechanisms. And this is believed to give us fluency and grammatical accuracy at the same time.
Since it makes sense that the acquisition of knowledge should follow the principle of economy and efficiency, and, at the same time, should have a solid scientific support, the fact that suggestopedia, in addition to employing various types of suggestions, also makes use of almost all known beneficial psychological effects found in humans makes this method rather scientifically plausible.
In Slovenian elementary schools suggestopedia did not establish itself either as the principal or alternative teaching method. One definitive reason for this situation is that the method is almost unknown. The other reason lies in the lack of appropriate (suggestopedic) teacher training which is mainly due to the first reason.
In terms of suggestopedia being applied as an alternative teaching method in Slovenian elementary schools, although a fair amount of mistrust towards the effectiveness of the method has been revealed, the general attitude of the teachers toward suggestopedia, nevertheless, is not negative or reluctive, but rather positive and embracive, and there is a general consensus that suggestopedia is an acceptable alternative to the standard way of teaching.

PERCEPTION AND PRODUCTION IN EARLY FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING THROUGH SPOKEN AND WRITTEN WORDSuzana Miljević

Opis: Implementation of early foreign language learning in the national curriculum for primary education has been a significant and a popular issue among the language researchers, all the professionals involved in the process of early education and parents. The modern theories and research propose early foreign language learning in primary schools as highly beneficial, crucial and necessary in a sense of spontaneous language acquisition through simple and non-demanding tasks, which are primarily based on auditory perception and physical response as production. In contrast to popular approaches in early foreign language teaching, based on the relation between the tasks’ difficulties and language acquisition, this thesis explores the connection and defines the importance of the attention span in relation to successful language acquisition, in comparison to the importance of the task difficulty. The research was carried out at the Primary School Ljubečna among the second and third grade students, who took part in the listening and reading comprehension examination, which was structured for attention observation and measurement purposes. Each group of the second and the third grade students took a listening and a reading comprehension test. The results and observations of the testing were shown to lead to accurate determinations of the attention influence on early language acquisition. This indicates that there is a possibility that the early reading and writing are not adverse to the process of early foreign language learning and foremost that difficulty of tasks is not in a directly proportional relation to perception and production, namely less demanding tasks are not necessarily completed more successfully than tasks that are more complex.

Testing pronunciation varieties of English in primary school through pictorial and textual inputMejade Tomažič

Opis: We are surrounded with different varieties of English language. We listen to English music or radio shows, watch English movies and shows and watch English videos on the internet. The most common varieties that we encounter are British English and American English, which have distinctive differences in stress and pronunciation. Because we encounter both varieties daily, we have found it interesting to see which one prevails in our primary schools. The British English variety is primarily taught in school and the American variety is all around us and is thus more likely to be acquired. Children acquire a foreign language very easily if they are in contact with it on a regular basis. This is as nowadays, as we all hear English lyrics on the radio or hear English conversations on TV.
The thesis focuses on the factors that might influence the choice of the English variety. It explores if the input, whether it is pictorial with pictures or textual with words, influences the choice of variety. It also presents connections between the pronunciation of more frequent and less frequent words with choice of variety, the influence of the pupils’ backgrounds, and way of learning English.

From DCOM interfaces to domain-specific modeling languageTomaž Kos

Opis: Software development is a demanding process, since it involves different parties to perform a desired task. The same case applies to the development ofmeasurement systems - measurement system producers often provide interfaces to their products, after which the customersć programming engineers use them to build software according to the instructions and requirements of domain experts from the field of data acquisition. Until recently, the customers of the measurement system DEWESoft were building measuring applications, using prefabricated DCOM objects. However, a significant amount of interaction between customersć programming engineers and measurement system producers is necessary to use DCOM objects. Therefore, a domain-specific modeling language has been developed to enable domain experts to program or model their own measurement procedures without interacting with programming engineers. In thispaper, experiences gained during the shift from using the DEWESoft productas a programming library to domain-specific modeling language are provided together with the details of a Sequencer, a domain-specific modeling language for the construction of measurement procedures.

Effects of social interactions on learning and developing foreign language and phonetic learning in infancyTina Dornik

Opis: The main aim of the master's thesis is to gather as much information as possible on early second language acquisition, types of bilingualism and language changes that occur in early second language acquisition and bilingualism. The main objective was visiting a 21-month-old child, regularly for one hour per week, for a period of one year, with whom the author communicated exclusively in English. The purpose of this was to determine the possibilities of developing the earliest type of bilingualism possible in a child living in an all Slovenian family. The fundamental research question was whether a constant but relatively short (1x per week) form of social interaction could result in development of this form of bilingualism. The author collects material through fieldwork with audio and video material and writing a journal with basic findings and further suggestions for work in this field.
