51. Slavic-Albanian language contact : lexiconMatthew Curtis, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This paper examines the nature of Slavic and Albanian historical interactions on the basis of three approaches to lexical borrowings: Frans van Coetsem’s (1988/2000) concepts of borrowing and imposition, scales of borrowability as found in Thomason and Kaufman (1988), and Friedman and Joseph’s (2014) notion of ERIC loans (Essentially Rooted in Communication). By examining the geographic and semantic spread of vocabulary borrowed, Slavic appears to have had a greater influence in terms of geography and quantity of borrowings, while Albanian has also contributed words for kin and other categories likely borrowed under intense or prolonged contact, suggesting rich and diverse interactions that have occurred under a variety of circumstances, including times of peaceful coexistence. 52. Russian borrowings in the Volga German dialect in Russel County, KansasMaria Khramova, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The present paper is based on a field investigation of the Volga German community in Russell County, Kansas. It provides a short overview of linguistic research, conducted on Volga German dialects in Kansas, and further analyses a list of Russian borrowings that was compiled in Russell in 1913. This contribution also addresses the disputable etymology of some words and expressions and discusses the lexical items from the list of 1913 that were retained in the dialect. Analysis of additional sources shows that some words that are traditionally treated as Russian borrowings acquired on the Volga may have been part of speakers’ lexicon prior to emigration and could have been borrowed from other Slavic languages. 53. Authorship attribution : specifics for SloveneAna Zwitter Vitez, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The paper shows the importance of a quality analysis of linguistic features which enable the process of authorship attribution or author profiling in a forensic, literary or economic context (anonymous threat letters, plagiarism, literary works of unknown authorship, client profiling). It also highlights the lack of realized analyses for Slovene and outlines the methodology of detecting the syntactic, lexical, semantic and character features in order to quantify the authorʼs personal style. 54. Language, ideology and politics in CroatiaMate Kapović, 2011, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Based in part on his recent book Čiji je jezik? (Who does Language Belong to?), the author reviews the intricate relation of language, ideology, and politics in Croatia in the last 20 years, including new examples and analyses. The article emphasizes problems related to Croatia specifically, which might be of interest to foreign Slavists and linguists, while the monograph (in Croatian) deals with the problems of language, society, politics, ideology, and sociolinguistics in general. 55. S-shaped curve of phonological standardization : six surveys in the Tsuruoka and Yamazoe areasFumio Inoue, 2010, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This paper is concerned with the speed of linguistic change. If social variation is a reflection of linguistic change, the scene of the linguistic change can be caught in action as a palpable phenomenon. However there is one theoretical question, the distinction of “real time” and “apparent time”. In order to observe linguistic change repeated surveying is necessary. The tradition of Japanese dialectology provides us with several examples of repetitive surveys. The conclusion of the analysis is as follows. The curve of apparent-time change corresponds to that of real-time change. The total number of years necessary for a linguistic change to be completed is nearly 200 years. 56. Sociolinguistic and geolinguistic variation in the Basque languageGotzon Aurrekoetxea, 2010, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: In this contribution, we show the first results of the “Socio-geolinguistic atlas of the Basque language-EAS”. This research project was presented at the Vth Congress of Dialectology and Geolinguistics held in Braga. On the one hand, we present some data collected in the same locality from informants of different generations (the elderly, adults and young people). We examine the linguistic differences that we found among people of these generations and we analyse whether the difference among generations is similar in all localities or not, or whether some of them have peculiar characteristics. On the other hand, we show different types of geolinguistic variation: variation among elderly people, adults or among young people. 57. Point and find: the intuitive user experience in accessing spatially structured dialect dictionariesEveline Wandl-Vogt, 2010, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This article adresses a long-term project of the “Austrian Academic Dialect Dictionary” the “Wörterbuch der bairischen Mundarten in Österreich (WBÖ / Dictionary of Bavarian dialects in Austria)”. The project Datenbank der bairischen Mundarten (DBÖ / Database of Bavarian dialects in Austria) commenced in 1993 and was aimed at the digitalisation of the archives. In 1998 a rationalisation concept was issued, which targeted the completion of the dictionary in 2020 as a (virtual) unit consisting of the printed dictionary and a complementary database. The project Database of Bavarian dialects in Austria electronically mapped (dbo@ema) has demonstrated how the unification of online dictionaries and source material databases with visual, geo-referenced access applications and so called ‘topographic navigation’ can increase usability and lead to greater interdisciplinary insight. 58. Computerisation of a corpus of personal correspondence spanning the 19th and 20th centuries : the study of linguistic variationMaria-Pilar Perea, 2010, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The article presents the contents and the technical resources of the CD-ROM “Epistolari d’Antoni M. Alcover (1880–1931)” [Antoni M. Alcover’s correspondence], published in 2008, which contains the complete transcription of the Majorcan dialectologist’s personal correspondence between 1880 and 1931. It shows how the computer program can help to study the linguistic variation throughout the 3,529,159 words of the corpus of correspondence. Among many other features, we pay special attention to the presence of dialect features and to the linguistic interference between Catalan and Castilian at the beginning of the 20th century. 59. Implementation of the scheduling domain description modelAlenka Baggia, Robert Leskovar, Miroljub Kljajić, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This paper presents the problem of auniform scheduling domain description. It was established that the algorithm used for scheduling is general, disregarding the type of scheduling domain. On the basis of five different scheduling domains, a general description model was developed. The research is focused on the programming application of the resource scheduling model, presented as a UML class diagram. Diverse meta-languages for the model description were considered. Of these XML, an EAV model and object oriented languages have shown to be the most effective. Even though Java is not widely used as a description language, it has proved effective as a meta-language for the description of the extensible scheduling model. 60. Robust clustering of languages across Wikipedia growthKristina Ban, Matjaž Perc, Zoran Levnajić, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Wikipedia is the largest existing knowledge repository that is growing on a genuine crowdsourcing support. While the English Wikipedia is the most extensive and the most researched one with over 5 million articles, comparatively little is known about the behaviour and growth of the remaining 283 smaller Wikipedias, the smallest of which, Afar, has only one article. Here, we use a subset of these data, consisting of 14 962 different articles, each of which exists in 26 different languages, from Arabic to Ukrainian. We study the growth of Wikipedias in these languages over a time span of 15 years. We show that, while an average article follows a random path from one language to another, there exist six well-defined clusters of Wikipedias that share common growth patterns. The make-up of these clusters is remarkably robust against the method used for their determination, as we verify via four different clustering methods. Interestingly, the identified Wikipedia clusters have little correlation with language families and groups. Rather, the growth of Wikipedia across different languages is governed by different factors, ranging from similarities in culture to information literacy.
